Driveshaft toast bearing seems OK......

Doing the last bit of maintenance and found the driveshaft is smoked where the bearing goes on. I am going to call dealer Tuesday and see if I can get it covered under warranty. I have had a vibration since after the first 2500 miles. I wonder if this is the issue.

Your bearing is probably worn on the inner race.

Wow, bigtime wear.....seems every one of these procross will do this. Shameful Cat does not fix this issue, they are warranty them anyway It would make more sense to come out and admit issue, fix it so they can actually sell new model sleds as everyone will get sick of fixing.

If the time comes when I have to change the shaft is there a bearing that would still be the same outer diameter but just a little tighter to fit the driveshaft better

No there isn't. Right now the best option is a new shaft, bearing and BOP driveshaft wedge. If that doesn't work I wouldn't know where to go next to hold bearing to the shaft. Slip fit does not work ever, peening does not work, loctite does not really work, setscrew does not really work. Hopeful the BOP wedge is the long term fix.

Not EVERYONE has this issue, only people that ride over 40 mph or put on "high" miles like 500 per year. Cat does NOT have this issue.

I told this story in another thread where my local Cat dealer said last year they have none of the issues i brought up.
I took him in back where they had 3 sleds on lifts.
ALL 3 had loose bearings & one was worse than that!
He's looking into BOP McWedgy tool &/or may get the driveshaft Metal Sprayed then turned to proper diameter.

They've only sold Cats for 2 years so they are just starting to see the "issues"

I just installed the BOP wedge on a 2020 ltx, my 10 year old nephew could make a shaft that would fit tighter.

My Yamaha 5 star dealer has never seen this problem lol..

That shaft is really worn. You would think there would be metal dust, or shavings of some kind along the running boards. There must be enough snow in that area to wash it clean.

If shaft is "really worn" so is bearing. IMO, put new bearing on too, not just shaft. You want as tight a fit as you can get between shaft and bearing.

I believe Knapp didnt have major failure but still had issues with the peening and loctite method.

Thanks for the information Mike I'll talk to Travis and get one to have on hand . As of right now what Dan did (peening and green loctite )is working but sloppy engineering is a ticking time bomb. I have over 60,000 miles on my apexes and except for upgrading to the heavy axles we had virtually no serious issues.we ride them hard on the big trails of Quebec and Arostock county Maine. Durable and dependable are the two words that describe the Apex the best.
