Hi

I have a TD stock modded muffler and after a while the droning get substantially louder. Perhaps something else is causing this. Has anyone experienced this?

I'm interested in this. Last Friday I was pulled over by the police and mnr. I was alone and just cruising. They made me remove the side covers looked at it then said start it. I have the TD/SQ exhaust and they read me the riot act because they thought it was TOO LOUD. I am thinking of the stock mod muffler and am interested in what people think of it.

I am 55 now and my ears still ring from my old SRXs ,Rx1s and Apexes with exhaust mods. Do yourself a favor boys and leave the stock muffler on. Both TD and Hurricane offer 270 hp tunes for the stock muffler. Absolutely no reason to put up with the law or noise any more.

I have the Hurricane Trail muffler (basically a stock modded muffler) and I thought it was getting louder this season too, but my buddy has the same one with only 60 miles on it and its the exact same thing (noise and pitch). I think It's just getting annoying and louder as we get older. Now mind you its far from loud like the straight thrus are, the straight thru's are far from quiet IMO! It still makes more noise than I like up to 30-35 MPH, but it helps a bit with masking the clutch noise as well.

There is nothing better than just a actual stock muffler to me. If you have trails to run over 35 MPH all the time its a non issue with the modified ones, but for lower speed stuff I'd rather have a stock muffler for sure. I think it all depends on the trail system you are running on.

I was out yesterday early and headed over to a cabin owned by a older fellow that is a warden and club member. Just happened he was there lighting the fire and heard me come across the field(full throttle of course, I have TD SQ muffler). I pull in and the first thing he says is 'you got that thing piped, dont' ya'?
However, there was a hot dog day I helped with for a few hours at another cabin where a few hundred sleds came through. I was surprised at how many sleds have aftermarket cans, most of them two strokes and are waaaayyyy louder than mine.

I removed my SQ for my ride last week and I'll tell you running the stock muffler is way more enjoyable. I can live with 260hp which is more than you need for trail riding.
I have the stock muffler, if I put it on will I need to have the power trail reflashed? I'm 64 yrs old and the drone does wear on me after a while. Don't want to buy another exhaust if the factory one is ok. Loosing a few hp isn't a concern

To run the stock muffler you have to reflash for it yes.

I too have the hurricane trail muffler and find it a bit too loud for my taste. I will definitely be going back stock or to a stock muffler flash. Don't like the extra sound and the "what ifs" that come with running a non stock muffler. I have never heard a TD mod stock or anything else like that in person but I have a feeling that nothing will compare to the sound of a stocker. And like said above, now with the technology of the stock muffler flashes why have anything else? Unless you are truly using it for closed course racing or are a mountain guy of course.

I did the same thing and couldn't agree more. Big difference! Noise No noise!

Its most noticed around 35mph, especially when decelerating its bad. The weird thing is its ok until you ride for a while and the drone increases a lot.

Because the Stock Mod Muff is not packed, it should not be getting louder.
It's the all day DRONE beating the Bejesus out of your inner ear that as we get older, it becomes less sensitive & accurate causing the Vestibulocochlear nerves to absorb more stimuli.

IN OTHER WORDS:
As we get older, although our hearing is deteriorating, we get headaches more easily with noise.
Or your testicles are getting smaller.....
