Stain you need to determine if you are bottoming or too stiff. Zip tie on shafts or just go opposite of what you did clicker wise. I can’t count number of times people were actually bottoming when they thought shocks were stiff. When you get compression right it will feel as though you raised the height of sled. If Sled is not kicking speed rebound up first. Rebound should be your first adjustment and should be fast as possible with no kicking in rear do rebound first. If you can’t get them right send back and buy Axis. Maybe Elka is fine now but they have repeatedly put out fancy looking junk shocks in past. I can’t get over the past crap I saw so would never advise buying them.

Rich, your error was taking off the stock QS3's if your talking about the 22 LTX-GT. When I rode my buds, it was hands down the best and most easy riding Winder I've ever been on. The thing was a dreamboat set on full soft.
If you switched those shocks out before riding, get them back on that sled! They were designed and valved for it and they flat out work. Every bit as good or even better than any R-Motion Doo or any sled I've ever thrown a leg over!
My 2019 X-TX LE has the QS3 shocks in every position and out on a very rough lake the other day with two R Motion Renegades one with stock shocks and one with the electronic shocks were not riding any better then my sled in fact my sled seemed to absorb the valleys between the deep drop moguls better.

What the R-Motion is typically better at, is riding good in the small stutters and absorbing the big G-Outs. The Mags rave about the R-Motion, and it is very good at this when new the first year or two. Then the wheels fall off and it starts riding poorly. I've re-freshed the Doo shocks, but the ride does not return to new for whatever reason. I've rebushed the Doo suspension, altered it beyond belief only to be quite disappointed.
I just had to re-fresh my Winders QS3r's and the ride came right back to new again. The Doo has a great suspension in the rear only. The Winder has it front and rear. The front really shines over the Doos! The Winder is made to go fast and in control, the Doo does not have the ability to go fast and in control IMO. I can ride the Winder so much faster and in control vs the Doo, and I don't even need to work at it..... I have no disappointments with the winder, however as I keep making it faster and faster it is hard to keep the skis on the ground more so now, but the Racework's quick adjustable transfer blocks do help with this. It just flat out rides and handles better than any of my Doos ever did. Not even a comparison.

I was going on my experience with my ZR800 I rode last year and felt like the shocks where "O.K."
I wanted to build the best "power cruiser" I could and read all kinds of good things about the Elka set ups.
I changed a bunch of stuff on this new sled before riding it based on time with my 2017 Sidewinder.
I will try again to set it up correctly. If it dosent get markedly better this weekend than the stock stuff will go back on.
Good news is that my clutching is spot on !!!!
Smart shocks are reactive, they can only make a change after they have sensed a change. The notion of predicting the next bump and how to handle it from the last bump is never going to be a great solution but the notion of reacting to what just happened puts the shocks constantly behind. Is it better, its better than nothing for sure. I would still prefer three simple switches on the bars so I can set shocks with muscle memory, without looking, thats the way that IQS is added to existing shocks on UTVs, no ECU required. Anti-roll using a smart shock approach would be a great use of the ECU.

I have a 2017 LTX-DX with the cheap HPG shocks which aren't very good. Where is the best place to buy the QS3rs from? Or should I settle for the QS3 from Yamaha or Cat?

I have used them before for parts and bought a set of Fox Zero RC 2 off them. Great to deal with
The guy has been around sled racing for decades. The Fox shocks from him are better than on any Factory sled. Valving, Heims,Coated Aluminum IFP,actual Fox or Eibach springs not China Cat. The better reservoir caps if available. It all makes a difference.
Cannondale, if you started selling new shocks I would definitely buy from you.
Well, I am happy to say I think that my problems have been operator error.
Shout out to DennyTuna for steering me in the right direction.
My thinking about what was happening was completely backwards. The adjustments I was making where only making things worse.
After a conversation with DennyTuna and some relearning on my part, I set all my shocks back to base setting with a few adjustments.
After a 110-mile squirt yesterday, I can now say I have a WAY better ride. Very compliant and comfortable now.
I am now in a window where some smaller adjustments and fine tuning will get me where I want to be.
