Well guys I can't thank you enough for helping me through this, with out this site I would have paid the dealer to fix my waterpump and then I would have blow it up on the first 10 minutes of riding this year.
Summary: They pulled the impeller for the waterpump out without removing the pan, the gear that drives that shaft then dropped into the pan, when they reinstalled it lined up with out the gear, on first start up I trashed the chain and NOTHING either the water pump or oil pump ever spun.
Now I cant describe how pissed I am, I did everything by the book and if they would have done the same I would be a happy camper right now....
Pictures are worth a thousand words. 1000 swear words

he had better cover it. I can't see the gear on the crank is it toast. If it is, it won't be pretty. Maxdlx
I'd say they need to tear it all the way down and clean it good too. Keepus posted, have you talked to them yet. Paul

Well that's good news!! Good for you...ripping and tearing is great fun. You shouldn't have any issues with the dealer on this...pretty clear cut and well documented!!

What should I ask for from the dealer?
They are the best I have ever seen so I'm sure it won't be a problem. I may ask for a tear down and inspection of everything and hope they understand what they are doing!

You always ask for more, and settle for less. If you ask for less, thats what you get. I'd show them what happened, and just flat out ask them what they are willing to do about it. I think you should tell them you want to trade for a apex rtx, even up. Then strip the NX kit off and sell it to me for say 100 bucks LOL Maxdlx

Ouch!! Well now you know. With the amount of time it idled trying to get oil pressure, I would pull it right down and go through everything. It may be fine, but it wasn't your mistake. Much cheaper for them to go right though it, compared to what a KABOOM would cost them. Good Luck

I agree with Thomas800 . Tell them you want a complete teardown and new bearings . You said you revved it up some trying to get oil flow so they should do it up right.

I was trying to avoid a tear down when I started all this because I know it ran it so good, i suppose its neccasary now though. Just worried it will go back together again correct now!

give me a call tomorrow once you've talked to the dealer. They really have no choice but to do a complete tear-down. I would certainly voice my concern over the competency of their service in light of what happened. Good chance the guy who did your pump is not their most capable mechanic (I'd hope not) and I'm sure they'll put their best guy on it this time. Wait to see what the dealer has to say before you stress about it too much. This is a pretty fundamental lack of understanding they've demonstrated, and I find it hard to believe that a qualified Yamaha tech would have made this mistake.
I'm sure they'll make it right. If they don't, at least you know you have other options.

Jesse,
I remember doing my first motor clearly putting that hole assembly in and right when I was about finished realized the chain came off the top gear.
Unfortuantely if the dealer's mechanic was in a hurry and getting paid by the job and not by the hour. Not uncommon! That would easily be missed. You cant see it, but you need to check by spinning to make sure its on.
NEXT STEP!!! Take a copy of your pictures along with your motor to the dealer. MAKE them rebuild the motor with new bearings and when they do it the motor will need to be honed so you dont have ring problems. Along with the chain and anything else that was damaged when the chain broke. I WOULD MAKE THEN... Give you a warranttee on that motor. Even if its a one year, you will know by then if its going to hold up.
I personally would be worried about having them do any work on it... If you can talk them into paying for all the parts and gaskets you might be better having someone from here put it together for you.
You know I will assemble it for you, and there are plenty of guys on here that are more capible then me that would do it also.
