FMI, are you talking about the "cheater" hi-flo header (the one that runs into the stock silencer) or the "full" exhaust kit header...?
In my opinion, correct center-to-center distance on all of the header pipes is critical. The flex tubes can handle vibrations, heat expansion and other variances in the longitudinal direction, but once you force them sideways (because of incorrect center-to-center distance), you are risking them to crack within soon...

I'm talking about the "cheater". It is the sideways center-to-center that is a little bit of and I needed to force into place. And my worries are exactly the same as yours, that the built in tension will eventually cause som cracks.
