Lots of guys post opinions on Turbos. Here are some facts about turbo charged RX-1s. If anyone can add to this list please do. Maybe this will help guys thinking of adding a turbo Charger to there sleds.

1. There are 4 front mount turbo builders "Lightning pro, CPR, Powder lights, and North east turbos

2. There are 3 rear mount builds "Bender, MC express and BPE"

3. Inter-cooled sleds make more HP then Non inter-cooled sleds

4. The best form of inter-cooling is done with either NOS or alcohol. it is instant and provides a higher percentage of cooling compared to a Air to Air inter-cooler which are at the most 60 % effective.

5. The closer you move the Turbo Charger to the intake the less Lag you will have. Turbos build boost from pressure in the turbine housing caused by heat. Once you load the motor and it makes heat in the exhaust you will build pressure in the housing which will make boost. At this point the only thing holding your motor back from getting that boost are the areas between the mouth of compressor housing side of the turbo and the intake of your motor that are in a constant state of VAC . therefore the less distance you have between the two that are in a constant state of VAC the less lag you will have.

6. the Front mount MC express has a .5 of second of lag. We have recorded this on Neon Phil's Front mount MC.

7. All turbo Headers Crack. The heat is so extreme and and cycles so much it is inevitable that it will happen.

8. All turbo systems with the exception of the LP and the TI version of the bender add weight to your sled.

9. 4 systems maintain stock fuel capacity "Bender, MC X rear mount, BPE and the LP.

10. 3 Systems do not " CPR, North East turbo and Powder Light"

11. Internal Waste gates have a slight over boost before they blow off

12. a external waste gate lets off instantly. It is on the money every time.

13. front mounts build under hood heat

14. If properly vented heat is not an issue with front mount.

15. Once you have ridden a properly tuned turbo you will never be the same!

Man so true!!! ;)! ;)!

The blue thing in my picture is a blow off.

Skydog ;)!

this has been discussed befor and I don,t think there is a winner, they all work good when set up right and it depends on what kind of riding you want it for, if possible test ride a front and rear mount and then make your own decision everybody will tell you thiers is the best, most of my experience has been with front mounts and they all work very well regardless of who biult the kit, most of the kits a vey similiar, If I was buying a new kit I would go with the one with the bigger turbo like a gt28 rather than have to upgrade later because as usual we always want more.

Once air to air intercoolers are installed they are "free". NOS and alcohol are highly impractical for most riders, not to mention expensive, and in need of constant replenishment. It may be great for the lake racer or dragstrip but for the mountain rider who rides and needs the power for hours on end its a thumbs down. If the 2 intercoolers on the rear mount kits can keep an engine happy at 300+ HP they must doing their job.

I agree If you have an inercoolered turbo front or rear it doesn,t matter they are both capable of over 300hp, its all you need for normal trail and mountain riding, at 18lbs I never found anything my sled was not capable of climbing. The only time you will need nos or alcohol is against somebody with it, if you are in a heads up race.

We all think we have the best setup. It depends what you want and what you expect. I want to be able to run with my hood on as well as get the most hp without having to use race fuel and as little extra weight on the nose as possible. If I was into high speed trail stuff or drag racing, it would have been something different for me. Hey, they're all good. Buy it, ride it, enjoy it.

Thanks for the input, the one I'm looking at is a Bender rear mount with intercooler mounted in the tunnel. Told it makes up to 300 hp? I'm not looking for that, more in the 200+ and remain as stock as possible. Mainly for the trees and tough climbs.

you don,t have to use all the hp unless you need too. and you will be happy you have the extra when its needed especially on those tough climbs.
