What is bad about the front exhaust ?
For me 40/50 lbs. less weight from ice and a place for storeage is a very good thing.
 
I am for one happy to see the changes will bring good handling and ergos to yamaha. Slightly disappointed to not see a turbo but oh well. I just cannot believe all the pissing and moaning about being a cat chassis. I think this will be the best of both worlds as the cat chassis is light years ahead of anything yamaha offers!

I think alot of fellow TY users ar friggin color blind! Open you eyes and quit complaining. I bet 99.9% of the users knocking the cat chassis have never even rode a procross sled or any other new OEM sled to see how far yamaha was behind in chassis technology.

I would like to see some weight specs and more pics of the engine bay.
 
Wonder if the quality issues that ppl seems to have with TRF factory is some thing Europe have to consider?

Maybe they ship the chassie to Japan and assemble them there with Jap quality before sending them to Europe?

Btw was it Polaris or Cat that blew up gearboxes when trying to reverse? heard it was a nasty and common fault before but i cannot remember what brand.

So far i find the XTX promising but if the gearbox is crap i might think twice.

Weight is also of interest like for everone else.

Here in Sweden dealers get to see these sleds in mid March!
My local seller is kinda annoyed with the diffrent release dates, not fun to pull the cover of a new sled and everyone already knows what it is^^
 
I would like to know if you could swap a M7/8 front and rear suspension in! Make a little tunnel extension, and whammo. U.P. boondocker extreme.
 
The rear exhaust was nice to get the sound behind you, like when it's echoing off the ground and a nice hand warmer. love the bigger fuel tank, hate the oversized a-arms n spindles, the cat does steer lighter, i like the feel of the nytro seat better. the shock package will be way better. My friend has a new cat and has had many service bulletins already, cat quality is not up to par w yamaha. not sure what to think yet, need to see one in person!
 
I am excited about the new Viper, I almost bought a f1100 turbo, and this sled addresses many of the issues that kept me from buying the f1100 turbo.

I do not like the gauge. Vector gauge might still work, or hopefully you can swap an AC gauge in place of the goofy digital unit they decided to go with. I also do not like the hair pin cotter pins used to secure the side panels. The dzeus fasteners IMO are a much nicer looking solution, and there is no wire cable to wear away at the finish.

The Taillight should have gotten some sort of unique treatment. The Viper should have gotten the heated goggle storage like the procross.

Factory boost should have been available. Perhaps we will see it in a year or two, maybe they are waiting for market feedback before they go all in, and obsolete the flagship apex with a boosted viper?

Anyway, its good to see that Yamaha is listening to what we want, and making strides to give us what we want. They really need to listen about the boost though, just make it happen.
 
I think the AC tunnel storage bag looks bigger and better too than the Vipers bag.

Many of the things that were changed for the Viper from the procross, appear to be downgrades.
 
Big Time Disappointment. I've been a loyal Yamaha guy for over 40 years, and owned everything from ATVs, motorcycles and sleds to trumpets, keyboards, and pianos! This one really is hard to defend. Partnering with Cat? Cat used to be the arch nemesis back in the day, and recently has been the least quality build of the 4 manufacturers. How could they think this would be welcomed by true Yamaha loyalists? 2 years to retrofit the chassis to fit the Nytro motor? Why not just build your own? Selling the industry's best motors to your competitor? Plain crazy. I don't get it, and am already getting my balls broke by the Doo, Polaris and yes even the Cat guys! After 40 years, I think I have to stop defending my Yamaha loyalty and move on.

they could of still had an undertunnel exhaust and had a loop going around like the yz450f motocross bikes so the exhaust was as close to the engine as possible. that could have allowed alot more space under the hood and kept underhood temps down

Really?? I think if you're biggest concern is what your friends think of your ride and not how it suits your needs, it might be time to reconsider your thought process. If anything this should make defending your loyalty easier since you will have the best combination on the market. IE - look what a good company can accomplish when they get past the middle school "arch nemesis" thought process.

It seems to me that there are many of us that are ecstatic about the availability of the best motor in the industry paired with the most exciting chassis in the biz.

Progress happens. Embrace it. Enjoy it. Go ride it.
 
How quickly we forget and get caught up in all the hype. Lets get back to basics. Do the hand warmers work or do we have to buy that as an accessory? Do we still need to piss on the starter relay to warm it up? Are there going to be big geometry changes between 2014 and 2015 like there was between 2008 and 2009 to make it handle right? Still need to replace the suspension wheels to increase hyfax life? If they wanted to do something significant they should have come with a turbo or supercharger right from the factory. Hang on to your old sleds as long as you can. Disappointed again.

You are correct, no chassis issues that I know of. My buddy and I both bought new 2012 XF turbos together and mine was about flawless while his has been plagued with issues, and even with all the issues he has a hard time even thinking about getting rid of it, sure when it breaks he is pissed, he wants to work out the bugs because the chassis is so good he doesn't want to give it up.
 
I had a wish list of sorts for the new release, and it seems like this Viper might address them all, but I guess we will have to wait for ride reports to see. Some of the things that havent been answered for me yet:

- Did they fix the lousy handwarmers that plague our true-blue sleds?
- Are we finally done with those stupid lousy plastic bushings in the front end?
- Does the air intake for the air box really sit directly behind the radiator?!?!? (more of a rhetorical question)
- How about the hi/low headlight split issue, i assume this is no longer an issue?
- Is the push button reverse yami or cat? I know there were issues with the cat version
