Forgot just what a blast these Winders are!

Dan u putting in regular gas in your sled ? We where at that gas station on Friday, the first pump on left was the only premium pump .

Anyone that's addicted to hp won't be switching brands anytime soon .... that's because Yamaha is the only current company that can put out the current hp to cc lvls on 4 strokes some what reliable. Even with the problems of the Arctic cat chassis.
I got two weekends on mine now (450 miles) and the more I ride it the more I like it. I've done most of the updates that have been talked about here on TY and also run the hurricane sm bundle. I usually run 225hp in the twisties (13.5 mpg if driven nice) and 270hp on the rail beds=insane! The only thing I have left to address is some more clutch work. Clutch runs plenty warm but I haven't lost a belt.....yet.

I have been putting 87 in mine for most of its life since the tune last January..lol

Trail riding, nothing else is needed on ANY tune.

Which place?

I filled in Dwight on Sat....and today I filled in Sundridge, and also Macs in my town(Huntsville) in my truck bed, before I met Dano to head to Sprucedale.

Dan

Wow Dan I launched from Sundridge at ~845am rode East accross Bernard to D trail and did a loop up Powassan and back down through Eagle Lake. I would advise not to to that loop until they groom . .... Was 80% awful and full of moguls. But the 20% in green in my pic was great.

Basically I brought a souped up corvette to a dirt bike track lol still nice to be out riding!

I should have went down towards that area instead!

I dropped on D outside Kearney at noon today , looped up D to Nipissing , and back thru Eagle Lake .Couple hours behind you.
Made it back to Kearney at 6:45 , 288 klms. ,and then hour and half drive back to Bala area .
Some decent stretches , and some not so good .
Met groomer 10 klms. from Kearney , so trail was better than when I left earlier in the day.

Our club (ADSC) fought groomers going down all week. I’d just been in Cochrane for a week, so stayed home this weekend. Nice to here the riding was decent Dan. I’m heading back up Thursday night. Cheers

And to think you are hinting at changing rides :)

I have traded up every 2 years since 2012('12, '14, '16, '18) but this time round('20) will be a harder decision. Now it comes down to what other sled out there would I be happy on? With a tuned Winder, that becomes very hard to replace in the power dept. When I sold the 12 turbo, I stepped to the 14 etec. That was less power for sure, however it was a 2s which has a ton of low end snap for my trails, and MUCH lighter, so it did not feel like stepping down really. Sure the 12 turbo tuned ran 134, but it did not do much else well at all.

After that 2s etec blew up, as just about every 2s I ever owned did.....I will not go back to a 2s, even though my local trails the 2s is king, and alot more fun. I still ride a heavier 4s and muscle it through the junk on weekends keeping up with my 2s buds. Swapping with them I go from sweating on my 4s, to freezing on their 2s, since they are so effortless to ride hard through our local system, and weekends can end up rough by end of day.

So this is always a love hate decision for me....I don't want another 2s as it will blow likely, dont like burning oil or carrying oil in trips....don't like the measly power band, don't like the 2s on big qc trails at all the power is not near enough. But they sure are perfect locally for pounding through the tight twistys, and I can see why most all my buds ride them here.

My eye has been on only one other sled that I would consider, mostly cause it has much of the benefits of what I just described above. The 900t handles and feels very close to the 2s doos. But is a 4s turbo with "decent" power. Its right around the 850 power stock from most ive talked to. Dave has tunes for them at 205hp now, which doesn't sound like much in Winder world, but with a light agile G4 chassie, it could be a very nice power range for my trail system, and be alot easier to pound through here on rough weekends, and corner to corner tight stuff. The iTC is one point of contention, however you do get used to it, just not good if you swap sleds often, as the feel is not typical and takes time.
The power would be the other thing, can I step back that much in power and be happy? Probably, but should I? LOL.

Clutches are said to run coldest of any sled to date....and Pdrive sure looks to be a Marvel so far in factory clutches. Doo does alot right for sure, not stupid engineering, easy to adjust chain from your KNEE area without removing anything. No Drive shaft bearing issues to worry about, belts last ect ect.....G4 ergos are wide open, compared to winders....So lots to like for sure.

It basically comes down to , can I be happy without the BIG power? I do like that GAP and Hurricane are tuning the 900t, so I could still be with them and a tune, and surely more will be coming from them. Crank is pressed in PTO so HP won't ever be too high IMO til that is changed. But at 205 if it holds up, that might be plenty in that design, as it does transfer and snap well.

2020 will be getting a close examination from me in March....I am really watching to see what YAM does, If they bring back the 129rtx and fix/update some of the stupid crap issues we are all seeing, I would love to stay on a Winder, since its the baddest sled around and the power is addicting. And I have never owned a BLUE one yet!!

I hear ya....but also I do think often about longevity, and with this much HP, how nothing will last long at all...so keeping this sled at 270 will have to maintain things bigtime, chains, gears, bearings, tracks, studs...all those wear items will last alot shorter time then a sled at 200hp.

Funny story from weekend, my buddy I sold my 08 apex to was up on weekend with us . We were drag racing down eagle lake , the “ old apex “ spanked my other friends brand new Polaris 850 2s , so now this week he’s looking at buying pipes for it ... Didn’t help when we are at the bar razing him about Polaris lol

Dan,
...that doo 900t front end beak is butt ugly, but-her-face looks like an old Tundra, unless you take her to a plastic surgeon for a nose job your friends wont be wishing they had her
Sidewinder...now she's a looker...higher maintenance and expenses always comes with a fast beauty

Old Tundra is ugly but damn good trucks
:)

I meant the old Ski doo Tundra. Even the new Skidoo Tundra looks non-sport.
