Has anyone actually blown up on any of the 240-270 tunes

I was just answering the post!
Is this motor bulletproof? The answer is NO!
I never mention any tuner.... Every tune have broke engine, it's #$%&*mecanic! Yesss i am "bitching" weak aftermarket stock pisses me off :-/

YES i am negative over your cusotmer support and service
Omg if you’re bitching about Hurricane’s customer service you obviously haven’t called around. Hurricane has been great to deal with, always someone to answer my questions.

Im not assuming this is about any specific vendor, just general horsepower range for any tuner. I know of a few that went down before knock detection, I'd say all were from either poor fuel or running lean and holding it wide open and not monitoring anything. I've heard of 2 that have gone down since knock detection that for some reason the knock detection didn't load properly when tuned. When using the app it will tell you on startup the knock detection is functional. Not sure how you know it's working on the dash flashes, but I'd say make sure you know it's enabled.

I have had dealings with Hurricane, I have asked many questions to many times, and he answered them all, called me back, and my 270 tune runs great, oh helped me with clutching , no deto as long as you run good gas, keep it out of wot and you can run on 87 without knock, you won’t see light unless wot. Great tune

Well I just did 127 mph on my 270 hurricane today on the river No problems here. Dave and his crew are awesome to deal with answered all my questions and help with setup I’m really happy.

Thanks Marc I enjoyed riding with you. yours is no slouch either. Thanks to a couple people leading me in right direction.

I too was on the fence. My machine came with 3yrs warranty. Ran stock first year and I wasn't that impressed with machine to be honest. A little blah for what I was expecting.

After stressing out about tuning I decided to say screw it and go for it!

My biggest reason for tuning to be honest is I absolutely hated the sound of stock exhaust. The problem with Sidewinders is that they need to be flashed for an exhaust change.

I went with a Sandale 3" Hyperflow and Hurricane 270 flash. Ron Ward clutching, Dalton based. CAI.

Absolutely amazing. I have never been scared of anything I have driven. My Sidewinder now scares me! But in a good way. 3/4 to full throttle will make you fall in love with a wild ride. It pulls so hard its incredible.

Now that being said, there is something with this tune I didn't expect. How docile it is down low. Quick spool, race tune etc... descriptions of these tunes that led me to to believe that machine would be jerky at low RPM's. Not at all. Basically 0 to 50% throttle is fairly stock feeling, 50 to 100% throttle - hang on. This was a very welcomed surprise. The best of both worlds.

And yes, I know of one engine that went down pre-knock detection. You are pushing the limits of performance.

Here is my opinion. The sled I heard of that went down. Story I was told is that he was playing of trail and plugged intercooler. He then was running hard down piston alley and bang. These machines were designed for less than 10 psi boost. This amount of boost will create a certain amount of increase in air temperature when compressed. Now change that boost pressure to 17 - 20 psi and that will cause a much greater increase in temperature due to higher compression. This temperature increase is cooled by intercooler. Plugged intercooler allows too hot of air into combustion chamber and lead to pre-detonation, ie knock.

From what I understand, Hurricane, Turbo-Dynamics and Precision tunes will pull timing with knock detection active.

I have been monitoring my air inlet temp gauge. 40 - 60 mph on trail, 30 - 40f IAT. Low boost pressures. On a 20 mile hard run at 85 - 100mph, 65 - 70f. Boost pressure up around 14 - 16 psi. Higher compression, higher temperature. I am not sure where the danger point is, maybe 100f for an extended period?

But knock light should get you out of it before your day turns bad.

At least this is the way I look at it.

One of my friends lost a 280.
Plugged with snow & overheated is the likely cause.
Breaking trail with 18” fresh powder for miles and miles.
Not a flash issue.
Warrantied.

So Yamaha warranties it?

So Yamaha warranties it?

In this case they did. Took awhile but in the end they did.
They were aware of tune and determined tune did not cause the issue.
Not aware of what they determined cause to be.

I was expressly told NO before flashing.

I'm not counting on it should mine blow. I was told "maybe" by my dealer.
I think a lot depends on how hard your dealer fights for you and your past experience with Yamaha Warranty claims but I could be wrong
I personally know of only two tuned sleds with issues and both were covered by Yamaha.
