exhaust options and the effect on tunes

In UP I have heard they just measure the outlet size. If it isn't 2", here's your ticket for "modified exhaust."

a member here was making these for fooling the tape measure rule

The muffs we are discussing are reasonable & the odds of getting pulled over are NIL to NONE, but in Maine & parts of Canada, it has to be STOCK no matter what the noise level.
2 years ago the Maine Fish Police were checking for a stock OEM # on muffler cover. FLEECER got away with this when they checked him.
Now, they may also check the exit diameter & they know it's supposed to be 2 inches.

I'm NOT saying you'll have a problem or get pulled over, but just know the law.

I am aware of the laws, I have not had an issue With my SW running the Superquiet. I have not had an issue on any of my 4 stroke sleds running aftermarket mufflers, that said I make what I think are wise choices in selection!

I hear ya.
The weird thing about the law is even if it's quieter it's illegal.
The old law from 1985 to 2007 was it could be modified as long as it was no louder then stock measured different ways.
I think they realized how difficult it is to measure so they just made a blanket law & said screw it.

Last year they went crazy for a week or two then they just let everyone go.

Weird is right!
I know some of you who ride in the Minouqua area have seen the DNR under the highway 51 bridge in town. They funnel the sleds between two bridge pilings, bust out the decibel meter and proceed to pull everyone over. Between the pilings, the echo is so intense even some stock sleds won’t pass. I managed to get through on a stock Formula 3 but my friend had a bone stock ZRT and he was ticked.
They continued to do checks like this for many years under the bridge, so much that I could spot them ahead of time and turn around before going through.
I was ticketed a few years later on the BS modified exhaust law that I was unaware of at the time. I had a Viper with SRX exhaust that was quiet but was asked to open my hood by “Law Enforcement” and received a ticket because the officer knew that Vipers had only one pipe. the fact it had factory pipes and wasn’t loud meant nothing.

After many years of putting up with the Harley Fall ride with thousands of illegal bikes waking up the entire north woods with zero repercussions, I decided in my mind the law can kiss it, I’m gonna run whatever exhaust I want driving through what is mostly the middle of no where. If they catch me then I guess I’ll have to pay up.

PS. So far no tickets in the last 15 years :D

I haven't seen the Popo under the bridge in a long time. It seems as though maybe they've been instructed to take their $h!t show somewhere else...lol
I haven't heard really any 4 strokes being bothered in the UP. Not saying it doesn't happen, but knowing a bunch of guys with mod turbos that ride there, nobody has mentioned it.

It doesn't look like us Canucks will have to worry about tickets in UP this winter, as the boarders don't look to be opening any time soon ....
