I know someone is gonna tell me to do a search, and I tried with no luck.
While riding yesturday I had three error codes pop on and off towards the end of my ride. Also had my mph quit on me, but the rpm's was reading alright. The error codes were 42, 81, and 84. They seemed to come on when I let off on the throttle but went away when I got back on the gas. A few times when I let off on the throttle it acted like it wanted to die and the engine spitted and sputtered for a few seconds then it went back to normal rpm's. I recall someone posting a chart with all the error codes on it. Please, if anyone has any idea what the codes are, let me know. Also post the error code chart so I can print it off this time. Hope nothing major is wrong with my sled because I have a 5 day ride planned in 1 1/2 weeks.

code 42 = no normal signals received from the speed sensor.
code 81= grip warmer has open or short circuit detected
code 84= conditions requiring TORS to be operation are detected.

Thanks.....you guys are awsome
Number 42 explains for why my mph wasn't working. The spitting and sputtering when letting off the throttle explains the code 84. Guess I'm off to the dealer for a check up tomorrow

Check the lower bearing on the clutch end of the driveshaft.
When it dies, so does the speedo sensor.

Yep....thats exactly what went. Pretty nasty looking. Probualy gonna have to change my hyfax due to the uneven wear because of the bearing being shot. Dealer told me that codes 42, 84, and 81 are a direct link to the bearing being shot. Hey, with 6000 miles on my Nytro, and this only being the major issue I've had......I'll take it.

I agree!
You can also re-grease that bearing & the one above it, behind the secondary, to help prevent failure in the future.
Just get a grease needle for a grease gun (NAPA has them).
Inject new grease into the bearings a few times a year.
They will last relatively indefinitely.
Rock
does the Nytro store codes in the system that can be pulled up after the ride? Don't have my owners manual handy, want to check codes.....what process needs to be followed?

Already printed it off and have it stored in my backpack for future use. Not a bad idea for the rest of you Nytro owners. At lest you'll know why the check engine light comes on. Could be simple or something major that you could head off if you knew the code was for.
