Not sure. I can tell you that it was building serious heat and grenaded the belt in no time. After running it today it still seems warm when I can pick up the speed but it's hard to tell riding the trails in Vermont. Tight and twisty to say the least. This weekend I will be able to get it out on my lake back home and do some testing. Going to get some shims and play the trial and error game with it with an IR gun. Rode pretty hard for 150 miles today and about 100 after the first one yesterday. Belt looks good for now.I'd say, Like the brake is stuck on and little gremlins under the hood slashing at the moving belt with a knife and sawzall. I just can not for the life of me, see even with total misalignment at slow speed would rip a belt apart like that one is, but there you go.
I've only ever blown belts at low mileage on machines that actually float the driven. No more floating driven's for me.

Im now at 1500kms(930 miles) so far this season, on the ultimax xs825(new timken, not carlisle model) 750 of which were at 57mm offset with little to NO float. I had to add a shim back in as I was rubbing, so im now at 58mm and added back in 1mm of float. Both setups are COOL secondary, with COLD moveable primary, and slightly hot fixed primary which I believe is now normal for any 4s.Well I have just 0ver 1100km on my setup. Hard corner to corner at 270r(this is how belts get beat up fast IMO)....lots of lake running top end speeds on 240r(87octane) on many miles of lakes(top speed does not seem to bother belts)....I tried the b/o this weekend upped to 90 degrees(6/3) which did not seem to make alot of difference, was hoping for more engine braking and backshift but very similar to 6/2(80). Same amt of heat too. The Ultimax runs dead nuts clean with clean sheaves(Im so glad the dirtiest belt in the history of snowmobiling 8JP is never going to be used again by this guy) and is so far working best for me over all others ive tried.
I think 57 to 58mm is the sweet spot and for tight trails 1mm of float sure seems to be good....but also think belt brand has alot to do with it. Im also running a 37/35 this season and loving that, 39/35 last yr felt ok but this seems better for trails. Also, i need to mention im back to stock gearing this yr....21/41 is max I would run for trail, the 22 top for trails just makes more heat, and does not seem to snap how this does now.
So far so good....lots more miles coming next weekend.

Just purchased the alignment bar from Dave. It tells me I need to take off 2mm. I've been reading this thread forever but haven't found the answer to my question so I apologize if it's in here somewhere.
Do I machine 2mm off the spacer that goes on the clutch bolt also?
Thanks.

Check my response on page 4 of this article. My clutch called for 2mm, but I took 4mm off the clutch as Dave at Hurricane told me to use a spacer between the clutch and the circlip. The spacer is 2mm.Just purchased the alignment bar from Dave. It tells me I need to take off 2mm. Ok, yes it's telling me 2mm and I don't have a washer between the clutch and the circlip. So I'll take 3mm off the clutch and the spacer then make up the 1mm with washers.
Thanks,

That will work.
This is how I did mine.

I run lots of tight twisty trails. Lots of gas and brake. My stock 8JP lasted 1,000 miles before blowing into pieces. My dealer said 1,000 miles is normal for an 8JP?
I've purchased the XS825 and I plan on running it this season. I'm not sure if I should purchase the alignment tool now, or run the XS825 and see how long it lasts first. If I can get 2k miles out of the XS, I will be satisfied.

I don't believe the belt itself is the answer, although that specific belt might work better with your set-up.
The 8JP can outlast an XS if it was set up for that belt.
Don't forget you are talking to an EX-800 mile belt blower here.

My first belt (8jp)lasted almost 900km. It exploded, but it was being abused that day. Since then the next belt went to 5100km and was still in good condition and I was still pretty hard on it. Only reason I am not using it is that I destroyed the sled. Will see how it goes with the new sled. The belt on it is at 1600km. I always have a spare just in case. So far I don't have a reason to try other belts.

I just hate giving you more “likes” because I know your posts too likes ratio could possibly make your OCD head explode, but this was a mandatory “like”, so I hope your head doesn’t blow up.

Do they have alignment figured out now or should I buy one of these tools to check my 2022?
Never checked the other 2 winders I have owned and never had and belt issues.

57.5-58 mm is where you want it.. I do have the Hurricane tool. But I usually just measure with a bar
I do know my 2022 primary clutch came off way to easily while taking it off.
I was at 57.9 on my 2022 when I brought it home with no washers behind secondary... I removed the clutches and had some "WORK" done on them, Balance, etc.. So I installed them the other day and I was 58.5 mm. Like I said the primary was not torqued on nearly enough from factory.. I removed .6 mm form my stub and now sit at 57.9 mm.
Otherwise remove any WASHERS form behind the secondary and run it with the Cir. clip . You will be very close
