How many have bought the Hurricane alignment tool ,and used it .?

Do you need to re set belt deflection after machining the driven clutch ?

Deflection has little to do with machining the hub to change offset IMO.

But setting your deflection with an adjuster is easy, and I do mine often. Especially when testing belts, as they are all slightly diff widths/lengths.

So how many of you had issues and used this tool and it fixed your belt eating issue?
Well that is why this thread was started....most of us have done the mod, and now just waiting til we get enough miles on to claim it helps.

If I get over 700 to a belt, I will feel it works....Im around half way there now. Qc trip coming up at minus 30 temps next weekend.

Cold has helped recently, but many regions still need lots of snow to get everyone out there riding.

Dan

I live in idaho and ride off trail mainly. Have you noticed a reduction in the temperature of your clutches, I would think that if this was the fix your clutches should be running much cooler. My clutches are running extremely hot , I blew 2 belts in 30 miles. Stock sled. The snow was extremely heavy that day and fairly deep.

Last year i had alot of belt issues tried the 8dn and the 8jp never had good results this year purchased the tool and found to be 4mm out of alignment fixed that issue added small duct work as seen on another thread on here and running the 8dn belt now. I currently have about 600 miles on it and I dont run easy some racing on it as well as several top speed runs. Ran for about 8 miles last night on the river breaking trail (mind you i was staying on top pretty good) at 90-100 mph. Last year if i got 300 miles to a belt i was doing good and was always felt anytime i run to hard the belt was going to blow. Running hurricane 270 race flash. I would say safe to say this tool has paid for itself already. Good work Dave and his team at Hurricane!!

So the washers that some one posted earlier from yamaha show only for the viper. So do the sidewinder and the viper use the same washer?

This is great news!

Nice feedback....I do believe the 8DN just last longer to begin with. Being longer, it does not seem to take as much a beating maybe? Not sure but I have never hurt a 8DN, I just dont like that it does not pull as hard bottom or mid, and has top end loss...

Dan

Dan,
It pulls just as hard and I believe harder after making some slight clutching tweaks.

Add a tooth up top and you have that topend back and then some. If I was to keep the Yamaha primary on it’d be the belt I’d run all the time.

8DN should have more bottom end & less top end in theory if u adjust to same belt deflection , I didn't realize the Apex belt was that close in length. And I gave away a bunch of good belts when I sold my sled :(

Dan not sure if this applies to the sidewinder but I ran the gates carbon fiber belt on my turbo viper with great results comparing to the 8jp and 8dn!!!

Just get the gear, tuned winder you won’t even know the difference until +120.

Yeah my testing showed much less snap down bottom, and the longer belt will never top end the same, all else being equal...and it has already been tested to be approx 3mph slower then the PROPER length belt.

That being said, a gear change will bring that back as Mike mentioned, but that same gear will also be 3mph faster on the proper length belt.

I would take the 8DN over the 8JP all day long, due to the dirty nature of the 8JP....but for me the Ultimax is clean and the proper length, and so far i'm liking it.

I do have 2 brand new 8DNs here though, so Im game to test those next. More backpressure as Mike said with the hard belt.

I know another bud who exclusively has run 8DNs and is setup well, and early spool tunes....never blows belts, even with a higher offset.

Dan

I would concur on the 8jp being dirty. The gates is like running a rubber band. You better be perfect on your set up with it. 8dn is longer but adjustments can be made for this slightly longer belt. Man you can beat on it for 60 bucks!
