Hyfax wear and track howl related?

howl

I agree that the noise is coming from the inside, but the ramps on the artic cat track seem to line up opposite the lugs - I believe our tracks flex a little between the lugs and the ramps are designed to ride "flat" when the track is at speed and under load. - Whereas our wheels are riding up and down in between the lugs as the track flexes. (as loomy58 said earlier...)

I'm sure there are a few other places that are generating noise...

Has anyone located a good replacement for the rear pulleys - a few mm larger and the correct size bearings?

maybe ur noticing the track howl becuz of hte quiet exhaust? i put an aftermarket exhaust on my sled and thats the only thing i can hear...no track noise. also got oring kit and cant hear clutch rattle...not even on mom's stock vector with oring kit in it. and i wouldnt recommend shaving the track...big waste of time. that'd be like creating a wing for ur sled to help downforce on the rear..but would end up reducing top speed by 20mph and reduce ur fuel mileage.....get a different track

If you put heavy duty rubber washers on each side of the wheels,I wonder if that would absorb and dampen some of the noise and vibration that causes the howl?Simple idea or dumb idea?

Has anyone noticed how quiet it is in powder? Sounds like the answer is to sell our original ripsaws and kick in the difference for the quiet ripsaw?

I really dont notice any track noise either.

noise

I think the majority of us complaining about the noise have RS ventures - I rode my friend's 10 year old MACH Z ten seconds after getting off the venture and I couldn't believe how peaceful it was cruising down the trail...

My kidneys were killing me, but it sure was quiet.

My buddy thought I was making up how loud my RS venture was - until he rode it for a mile or two.

1,800 miles on Vector and my hyfax wore down very quickly in the 1st 500 miles and then stabilized to virtually no additional wear. The majority of my wear is on the rear of the skid. Earlier this season, someone on this board mentioned that Yamaha's are notorious for wearing hyfax in the beginning an then tapering off. I listened and found that to be true. I always used to get nervous and replace the hyfax too early befoe the steady-state wear level kicked in. Just my 2 cents...

On the track howl issue, I believe everyone is discounting the basic facts... This track has a 1.25" inch lug! Do you realize how much air it is pumping, especially at higher speeds ? Also, the lugs are all pointy and they flex alot. These two basic facts contribute to noise and vibration. You don't get somethign for nothing: The enanced traction and control is worth 2X the amount of additonal noise, at least I think so...

Great point. I agree that this track is tons better than Yami's previous, but it's just too bad that Cat's version of the same track is quiet! I hate it when they get a one up on us!

They're onto something with the ramps they mold into their version of the awesome Ripsaw.

My track howling is not at a high rate of speed it between 40-50 miles per hour. I agree the track is a great track but very loud. I am not willing to let other people ride my sled.

There is no noise comparison between the vector and venture. I rode friends vector and it is a little noisey, but nothing to bother your ears. The venture on the other hand will have your ears ringing at speeds of 30 mph+.Its not bad a few miles at a time but constant cruising on good trails is rough on the ears. That's my experience anyway!

Well, that's the price we pay for buying innovation rather than a copy-CAT!

:yam:

I'm sure Yammi will follow with the improvement as long as copy-CAT didn't negotiate an exclusivity agreement with Camoplast...
