Hey guys,
So this weekend I was riding up in the UP and northern Wisconsin and I blew two belts. The first one has lasted a really long time and has been fine. It blew at WOT on a lake, so Im not really suprised there. I put a spare one on and ran it for 125 miles and then that one blew. I was like WTF?! So now my question is, have any of you put the shield protector on your sled for your left foot? I was always getting a wet foot so I put on a foot protector that would drain the water underneath instead. I am thinking that the belt may have been spinning so fast that it was getting caught on the steel plate and it just shredded. Does this sound plausible? Has anyone else had this happen or do you think it was just a fluke that the belt went? 125 miles is total crap. They should last WAY longer than that. Any input would be great.

the metal plate under the clutch is all bent now? I don't think the belt would reach that metal plate while your riding...no matter how fast you are going. I have heard that the belt will blow and grab that metal plate and pull it upwards INTO the secondary clutch. This is probably what happened to you if I'm thinking correctly. your belt blew and then grabbed the metal plate.
I removed the metal plate on mine. I wear water proof boots, no wet foot anyways. I dont want to blow a belt and destroy a clutch.

yes check the plate i riveted the front of the plate down because i blew a belt after jumping or hitting somethimg on that side it pushed that plate up enough to rub on my belt causeing it to blow .you should be able to see if was rubbing .but i am still having belt issues the dont last me more that 400 miles and yes i washed them and broke them in.

I'm not doubting you guys, but how do you know that the metal plate actually caused the belt to blow? Wouldn't it look like that if the belt blew and took the plate with it?

i think its unknown still if the belt let go and took out the piece into the secondary or if the plate was flopping around and then caught in the belt and took the belt out and so forth. I put two rivets through mine to hopefully not allow either to happen.

I had the same thing with blowing belts. My secondary spring was fag out. make shur the alinement is right. make shur that you get all the old belt out of the clutches, thats what got the first time, blew the belt going wfo what a mess did take the time to get all the strings out and blew 2nd belt in 40 miles

I dont think the metal plate is taking the belts out. I just dont want the belt to blow and grab the metal plate and pull it up into the clutches creating a bigger problem. I say get that stupid plate out of there, tape the holes up in front of your left foot if your foot keeps getting wet. If you're worried about heat in there, get some screen kits for the left side panel...which is probably a good idea anyways. Just my 2 cents.
