Yep...Don't know what to say. I've always made it back. Not looking forward to that day. But very much prepared.
Two things come to mind on every trip.
1) every rider coming at me wants to kill me
2) this is the trip I don't make it back.
Lol.....Sounds bad. But it's all good.
#1 is very true....wish they could make 1 way trails everywhere. Too many close calls everytime I trail ride.
#2 I'll add I or my riding buddies

These days I have more invested in mountain biking than my sled being I have a 10 year old Attak. I ride and maintain my local single track mountain bike trail system. Ours is 1 way and we aren't hardly doing 1/10th the speeds we travel on these sleds. Just an observation.

Back on subject, reading all these stories of people's Sidewinder issues:
Even if you haven't ever been to Pat's Motorsports in Greenland,Michigan in the UP I think many of you have seen them mentioned here several times. I stay near Pat's every year and I bought my Attak from them used 4 seasons ago. I won't go into what a great dealer they are but what shocks you when you hang out there is how many sleds they move in just a week. I was on the phone with them recently and I asked how many Sidewinders they sold, dozens. I asked how many of these issues they've had, very few. Mostly loose turbo bolts but they do a full machine torque check before they send them out the door. I asked about blown belts and flat rollers, he said nothing yet.
Just some food for thought.

Pretty much sums up why I've kinda lost interest in riding. #3 is that there's no respect for the trail system et al anymore.

I hold Kip and Co. up at Pat's in the absolute HIGHEST regard. Drove 5+ hours to pick up my 14 Vec LTX and would do so again in a heartbeat. But no matter what dealer selling what brand, they mostly all say "haven't heard of that problem, you're the first one". Makes we want to throw up!
Back on topic...sorry guys!

Nothing chaps my #*$&@ more then a dealer that has this sled with this many miles(ALL trouble free) that sled blah blah blah..
NONE of them ever hear of any problems of coarse! not that they will admit to.
THIS site is where you hear straight up stuff.. Not saying guys don't overreact some (hell I have) and do at times.. But its still the best source for info on problems period.
I like my dealer but I don't even bother saying half of what I post on forum sites. You really want to talk to someone at your dealer about this stuff, you talk to the dude in the back turning the wrench .. NEVER the guy selling them!

I get the point but to be honest it wasn't Kip (the owner) I talked with, it was one of the guys in the back. We've been doing business and renting property from them for many years now. Always have been very honest and up front with us. When I go up there soon I will see plenty of SW owners and I will ask them and see what kind of answers I get.

No it was not a shot at those guys at all.. I know they have a reputation that's VERY GOOD. we were just venting in general
Rich and Jeff do listen usually with a negative internet comment but after a time they do see the truth. I am same Jon tend not to talk about what I see here to avoid a argument unless its absolutely known such as the messed up Viper flash. They have always come through for me with any warrantee issues and believe me I have more than most! Don't forget I was the guy selling them 2 years ago. Some of us do care. Look for someone who rides. That's the key.Not yet! LOL

I agree, and they have always been good to me.. I have no issues with that. But most dealers are about a month behind in issues that are brought up on here. First of all, I like my new LTX 137 SE. I have 350 kms on it with no issues other than the roller wear and heavy steering. This machine is fast and I have hit 187 kph on a semi hard packed trail on the lake which I am happy with so far.
What disturbs me is the issues other members are having such as the following...
- loose turbo bolts
- turbo bolts that cant be removed
-fuel injection header that blew off
- oil that leaked out ( I believe from the oil reservoir...loose bolts or poor gasket?)
-flat spots on rollers
- several blown belts
-throttle that stuck open causing injury and wrote off machine?
- steering alignment issues
- cracked heat shields
Is seems there an assembly issue with this machine that needs to be addressed. I am very concerned with taking my new machine, which was very expensive, and on a high speed run. The belt may blow and take out the belly pan, or the oil may leak out, or the fuel rail may loosen and blow gasoline. I bleed blue, and had several Yamahas in the past , and I believe they are the best, but these issues have me has me concerned, as this is not typical Yamaha quality that I expect and have become accustomed to.
I feel, Yamaha should do a recall on all these Sidewinders and have the dealers inspect these machines, for all the loose hardware , as well as updates foe the known issues, to resolve resolve all the problems before major issues happen.[/QUOTE
Well, that's always been my issue with cat;erratic QC issues. You know, they don't charge less for the sleds, but quality isn't up to Japan standards...hate to say it, but Cat and Yammy need to do it better to they cut their own throats. No more excuses like the old days, like we expect some issues. MANUFACTURED PARTS are/should be the only issues as a possible supplier defect can miss the process controls, NOT assembly and workmanship like loose clamps, etc.
Parts made today get computer analysis, not long term real world testing, so we grt that, but it should still be a minimum and corrected immediately, like balls out immediate. A friend had an issue with a Lexus...sport model, forget the number, about the paint....maybe some tiny spots. They did not offer to repaint, or drag it out...they told him pick out a new one...no charge, equal or better. Immediately.
He is no longer a BMW buyer.

Lost my reply...crap.
Anyway, prices aren't less so qc assembly issues must be resolved immediately.
