Excellent info here, thanks for sharing.Other than the stuck throttle...which Yamaha should avoid servicing entirely (no longer stock, modified machine), it seems like this stuff is quite small for a 200hp performance machine of this capability. Yeah...they missed it with the rollers. Still a small issue. Belts blowing on stock machines? 1- Your belt is too short for your present center to center distance. Get a longer belt or adjust your ctr distance to provide more deflection in neutral. If your sled creeps or pulls the motor down in neutral, you're going to break a belt on a long run with this 200hp sled. Set the belt @1/32nd to 1/16" above the secondary with the belt off of the primary initially...no more than that with the power this engine makes, it puts too much load on the cord of the belt. 2- Turn your belt inside out, put it in the sink. Using hot water and a brush, spray 50% diluted simple green on the belt (don't worry about hurting the belt with diluted 50% simple green unless you soak it in it over-night), get a tub brush, clean the faces and in-between the cogs with the brush. Rinse it in real hot water and brush it as you rinse it. Let it dry overnight or carefully dry it with a heat gun...carefully. Don't get it too hot locally. Keep the gun moving fast over the belt surfaces. Don't leave it turned inside out overnight. 3-Follow the directional arrows on the belt, if any. Once you put the belt on the clutches, take a yellow paint marker and establish directional arrows, so the belt always goes on the way it originally was installed or you'll weaken the belt. 4- take #400 grit sand paper and dress the primary and the secondary, to remove any black or discoloration. 5- clean the mold release, oil and rubber from both clutches using Acetone. Clean it several times to get as much of the oil out of the porosity of the aluminum. 6- remove the primary clutch spring and the secondary clutch spring and put them back together. Put the belt on. Push the primary all the way in and put a small "C" clamp it on snug to hold the clutch and belt up at full shift. The belt will fall into the secondary when you do this. If its too tight at full shift...the belt is to short or the center distance is to wide and the belt will blow (break) on a long run. Get a longer belt or adjust your centers by moving the engine back in the chassis (this is a bitch the first time but it seems all Yamaha sleds I've own or raced...needed this to happen initially). 7- Before you run any sled, if i has an oil type filter...take the filter out and get the oil off the filter...there is no need for more than a very slight amount of oil on that filter...if any at all. If it drips, your going to blow a belt. Most of us know this stuff but we have to be willing to do it...especially now with all the power these engines make. Oh...don't bother with any other belt than a factory Yamaha Mitsubishi belt on these sleds. The 8DN was always bullet proof. Not sure about this new one but I suspect it is just a bullet proof as the 8DN. Its a very high performance sled package...it needs a little extra attention, on a more regular basis. It is what it is...and what it is, is one hell of a snowmobile that you can buy with a warranty! Just my attempt to try to help here.

Well I made 350 miles on my first Yamaha. Then I noticed oil all over my new Klim bibs - inside right ankle. No codes no heat issues at this point. Decide to look inside right panel. ENGINE OIL all over inside /down OIL reservoir and chain case. Get pulled out for first time in my life. OIL level is not into clear tube at all. So I pick up a quart of oil slower fill the whole quart and it just makes it into clear tube. Fire up motor and wait and watch with flash lights. F$&@ing oil is leaking out of the case/gasket about half way up magnesium case. It's like it has a bad gasket on it. Never hit anything, never went off trail, hell never had the track off the ground. Straight trail riding
Above is the post with oil issue.
It seems many of the issues with this machine is loose hardware contributing to loose fuel rails, oil leakage, and turbo mounts. Being a new machine I expect issues, but I am surprised as I have had 10 new Yamaha sleds in the past and the only major issue I had was the 98 SRX crank. To this day, I have not blown an 8DN belt, but I have De layered one at top speed. Do I think there is sabotage from the Arctic group??? Not sure of this, but we have complained about their quality in the past.
I agree with Tom that we need to keep the dealers informed of what is happening so it can be reported back to Yamaha. This way the problems can be hopefully resolved, and bulletins can be issued before there are other failures.
I too often ride alone, and have become accustomed to the Yamaha quality. I may be more cautious when and where I ride now.
This forum is very helpful, and identifies all the good and bad. I'm sure the problems are heightened, when everyone reads about them ,but they should be treated with a grain of salt. I am not trying to stir the $_ _ _ I will be checking all my fastener's for the oil lines, fuel rails as we clutch alignment etc. I find it a little concerning when I read about fuel rails coming off which was a significant safety concern. Hopefully, this is an isolated incident.
Yamaha has always been good about warranties and I'm sure all the issues will be resolved.
funny..when I posted something of speculation ...insinuating this I was lynched lol could a rogue worker not like this and intentionally screwing up when working on a yam...sure...but I was corrected whereas the cats have some loose turbo bolts as well..
but seriously...
there are a couple little issues...
the fuel rail...Im saying its the only one...who knows on that one...
oil leaking out..havent seen that one...
the secondary rollers...yep ...yamaha's first attempt at a roller driven..they need to tweak a few things...
the turbo bolts...someone on the line didnt do their job for sure...mine were tight...
and ...its definately not confirmed that any throttle stuck open...possibly a mechanical interference from non stock hardware...
chicken little...the sky is not falling..

My sled is at dealer with bad oil gasket on magnesium case. And I'm telling you flat out the sled never hit anything never went off trail. I feel pissed yes. But I know stuff happens. And the shop guy took one look at it and said exact what I said. Bad seal/gasket. This is just bad assembly. The weird thing is the leak is like half way up case. And the bibs have a nice oil stain .stuff happens. But it does get to you

Lestoil might remove the oil from your bibs. Scrub them with it and then wash it out. Might be a good idea to reapply water repellent after. You can buy it at walmart or any store that sells cleaning products/detergent

Lestoil almost always takes grease out of clothing. I have used it many times. popcorn, cooking and it splashes on you etc etc..

I agree that every tiny issue gets posted now on social media and it can get overwhelming. Think about the old days of sleds when we had all those brands. Those machines always broke down. Work on them all week, ride one day. Good thing there wasn't social media back then.
As for the Cat Factory sabotage thought, which I find unlikely.....find out where most of the Cat riders post. Arctic Chat?? Not sure but see if the T-Cats are having some of the same issues. I do realize they have a different set of clutches though.

you guys want to feel insecure? I've spent the last 8yrs on dootalk. I watched the rise and fall of the 800etec, over & over. My biggest fear, spilling off the trail onto a lake, and pinning it wide open.. and then the dreaded RPM fade.talk about a debbie downer...I expect more from Yamaha.
Given the situation, there is appx. 1/2 hours of your life needed to check things out and correct, possibly loose bolts and whatnot. So no surprises......
I did all I could do. Now it's up to fate & faith. I'm not afraid, even a little.

Not cool.....I can't imagine. Although I did look things over and your experience has made me aware......I'll be paying closer attention for the short term.Coolant clamp was torqued too tight and cracked..all the coolant leaked out and sled overheated..had to leave it at a general store and drive my truck back and load it up on the trailer..it's been at the dealer since last Thursday.

While it's at the dealer I'm having them look over everything including issues that have been mentioned by other members.

Yep...Don't know what to say. I've always made it back. Not looking forward to that day. But very much prepared.
Two things come to mind on every trip.
1) every rider coming at me wants to kill me
2) this is the trip I don't make it back.
Lol.....Sounds bad. But it's all good.
