Hey
just wounder if any of you guys have tested your speedos and how much they fail in highspeed?

did 221 Km/h on sunday with my Apex mcx

but what can that be for real?
:rocks:

The yamaha speedo is one of the worst in the industry. They are usually off by at least 10mph or more.. Every one seams to be a little different but almost all are off, the faster you go, the farther off it is.. The only way to confirm your speed is to use radar or gps.

Im sure you were still Haulin but not quite as fast as the dreammeter said...

take your speedo cog off, grind down a tooth and grind one on the opposite side and then the speedo is almost right on, look up the speedo mod, there pic's in there how to do it

The worst kept secret about Yamahas. 10 - 13% Optimistic dream-ometer. Do the math you were somewhere around 199kph. Not to shabby. You may need longer gearing. Plenty of help here on TY.

I've tried the seach to find the speedo mod, but can't seem to find it. Can someone please post a link? Thanks

what's the difference?

speedo in my truck is slow - speedo in my boat was so far off, i disconnected it and hooked my water pressure hose to it - if you're looking for the speedo mod go over and search the 2 stroke side - use to do it on the vipers all the time.

I have heard that while the speedo is off the odometer is bang on. If you do the speedo mod them your odometer will be off. I prefer to have an accurate odometer.

How could that be?

Mine was 118mph speedo, 102mph gps.

One thing ive noticed is all the guys who use gps are very close to each other on speedometer vs gps discrepancy.Radar speeds for some reason seem to vary alot...My speedometer is stock and 128 on it is 111 gps.Or to convert to kilomers per hour =178.63 and the sleds speedo would say 206kph.The faster you go the more it is off.

195kph would be a pretty close to real speed for you according to "my" calculations.

My gsxr speedometer is a ways off as well at 165 mph its only going 150 mph GPS.

They changed something in 2009 and the Apex LTX for 09 is just about right on! I can vouch for that. I am assuming the 2010 are also.

Most people believe that the speedo is off and the odo is on because yamaha designed it that way.. If it was an accident, and they intended to have the speedo accurate, then the speedo and odo would be equally inaccurate, or accurate as the case may be.

This leads us to believe that yamaha purposely designed their speedo to read higher so the rider would think the sled was faster than it actually is...
