Looking into buying some new skis for my 2006 Apex Yamaha. Any recommendations?? Also any modifications needed when putting them on? I have 144 pics, what size carbides would you recommend?

Thanks

OH NO another ski thread #$%&*

Seems like a lot of guys are having a lot of luck with Simmons. I have them on mine, and they corner great, and control the darting.

got my pilot 5.7 cheap. they work great. and its easy to get carbides from anywhere since they are doos ski.

Please ask your questions in this forum: http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewforum.php?f=30

Do a search in the same forum and you will find all there is about any ski there is. Happy reading.

BTW - would you mind filling in your location in your user profile, it's a site requirement.

no, mine came from a yamaha/doo dealer and they sold me a whole kit for the yamahas. bolts and rubbers. went right on.

Kimpex make the best trail ski I have tried by far. They are stock width but use two keel close together. They track like no other, they turn easy, use off the shelf skidoo carbides, look good, have deep keel for great bite in a corner, factory handles can be made to fit for a stocker look.
When you install them with stock rubbers the will turn too easy, I shimmed them in the back till they had some feedback. With a ski like this that actually tracks straight, no matter the conditions, you can use any amount of weight transfer or ski preasure you want and still have great steering. They use shielded carbides so they are safer than other exposed carbide skis when loading on trailer or crossing bridges and tracks.
do a sear on my name for other ski reviews, I have tried many and still keep testing other skis and carbide combinations, loan them to others to install on other sleds to get feedback. I still keep coming back to the Arrow skis for comparison and prefer them to all others I have sitting around, so far, but, I am sure I will find a better one someday.

I had simmons and they are bear to turn, now sure why they would ever advertise power steering, one pro is I got huge biceps now LOL

C&A razors worked awesome nothing but compliments on them

Now onto slydog powder hounds we'll see this winter how they do.

I might try a set of arrows on my dads vector since BTV loves them so much, he has seen, rode them all!

I have not used them on my own sled. daveyboy/dave50 on here has them on his sled and I have used the 5.5 ones on my friends xp. On the xp they work great untill you get to a place where the trail is crusty, then you are riding a really light sled with skis that are yanking your light sled around even easier than the heavy sleds.

Daves sled handled very good with them, he has tripple points on them, still I felt they worked better than the others I tried but again, two different sleds, two different skis.

I will probly bolt some dartless under my friends xp skis this winter when he isn't looking and see what he has to say.
I do like the look of the pilots, I dont like that they are skidoo skis. Its bad enough that you had to put on skis but really, skidoo skis!!!!!

the skidoo skis are still after the hype, a ski that will act like all other single carbide ski when the conditions get crusty. Like all other single carbide skis, to overcome this, they need add ons like dual carbides, dartless, cobraheads, easy stears, snow trackers, etccc. Even the magic ski company finally admitted their ski darts and sells a fix for it that copies the dartless, slp plates and snow trackers style of fix.

short answer(i rarely have short answers)

If you have them or if they are cheap and you dont mind the skidoo parts on your sled, get them and get some fix for the darting on hard pack.

They dont track as good as an Arrow or Simmons.
They do stear about as easy as the Arrows, rocker keel helps in this area.

i believe you can install yamaha handles on them with some modification.

They are just another single carbide ski, I would waite till the new M9 ski is out and is tried, with and without dartless plates. You might end up with a better ski, made for yamaha, lighter and just as cheap.
