What does a stock Apex clutch cost these days? I assume weights and rollers and springs are all same fitment between the two? So it just bolts right on Winder? Is the offset gonna be same as how we have setup the Winder currently?
Dan
Dan, the cost of a new Apex primary is about $450
The new clutch comes with everything except weights, rollers, spring or the little allen screws to lock the weight pins. Plus, assembly is required.
All weights, rollers and spring are interchangeable from the sidewinder to apex clutch.

Also, the apex, Nytro and Viper clutch bolts right on to the Sidewinder. Same taper, and all the sleds we have replaced clutches on, the offset distance remained the same so Yamaha has the depth of the taper exactly the same.

What about a 03 RX-1 clutch? I have one of those kicking around with no miles on it.

That works. Any 4 stroke clutch with the windows in the spider to allow weight swing. The older Yamaha primaries without the windows (mostly 2 stroke models) cause interference with most weights used for the winders.

Same here,i did try a couple of my Dalton springs, but clutches got to hot for my liking, and my rollers appear good to,i will remove them this summer and check everything over.I’m not sure this is relevant or not but I’ve been running Ulmers pink primary spring from day 1 with my TD tune bundle and I have no wear on my rollers at all and I check them frequently. It is a 30/90 rate. Could a weaker spring be easier on the bushings?

Yes I agree,my TCL was my biggest problem, even Belanger racing and I worked on a special jack shaft to fix some of my belt problem, and also a 1100 cfm fan on side panel, still blew belts every 400 miles, finally I had enough, down the road it went.I don’t know my cheap $89 belt lasted all last year I have ac. My old 1100 after it was lined up didn’t blow belts, used to get over 1000 miles before I changed it because it was getting thin, past spec, had TD max tune. A lot of people can’t even change a belt on a sled and they come on HCS complaining about all the problems. If your a sled head you can figure it out, but not the dealer, most don’t have a clue. It was the TCL causing most of the problems.

So these bushings are duralon from Yamaha,i wonder why Yamaha just does not install them on all sidewinders?View attachment 147675 View attachment 147674
Ran these duralon bushings in my 14.5 rollers with cat green set at 9-1 for 700 miles at 290hp in upper Michigan this weekend no problems . Stock bushings in sidewinder wouldn’t have made it 200 miles before . Would recommend it to anyone having bushing movement problems.

The OEM rollers are around 45 for one? Is this correct?

Yes, the Yamaha ones are not cheap

I have always setup my Apexs and other Yamahas with Thunder products 14.8mm rollers but on my Side Winder I am going to install and calibrate an Apex clutch using their 15.8mm rollers. My thinking is that I am starting from scratch anyway so I might as well use larger rollers to help alleviate bushing wear.

Why not try the power block 80 there was good results on hereId prefer to see the link and thread...as to the "whole story" there. Can you link please?
As I said, I read HCS daily too, and still have yet to see the masses of clutch/belt threads that are a daily occurrence here.
With big power everything can/will eventually fail, but so far it seems the most are over here.

Did you measure them to see if they are still in specI wonder if something has changed with Yamaha roller material that is used on newer sleds. I have just over 5K miles on stock 15.6mm rollers on MCX Nytro 270 with 86 grams weights and just went through my clutches. Without a question they are in perfect shape with minimal if any wear on the bushings. Looking at other posts Tarzan is successfully running a Nytro primary on his 375Hp Sidewinder and has not mentioned of any issues.
