Let's talk primary clutch rollers

Dont forget Cat guys have been running BigPower Turbo sleds for 7 years already. They ride them differently anticipating a belt blow up. Think thats not a factor? It is. Its one I take advantage of many times on my much slower sled. I dont lift till there is no more room. They ALL do much earlier from what I have seen unless your only running a mile or some short race that setup is much more important for. This is a big factor. ALL us Yamaha guys have never lifted ever.

Yes maybe the team may be a cheaper primary than those other clutches(tap and stm) but with wider belt, need to match secondary, more pricy cat belts, and still no guarantee belts will last any longer.
I don’t know my cheap $89 belt lasted all last year I have ac. My old 1100 after it was lined up didn’t blow belts, used to get over 1000 miles before I changed it because it was getting thin, past spec, had TD max tune. A lot of people can’t even change a belt on a sled and they come on HCS complaining about all the problems. If your a sled head you can figure it out, but not the dealer, most don’t have a clue. It was the TCL causing most of the problems.

Did some testing with 16mm rollers. Couple things I noticed:

Could run 1.5 gram heavier weights than with factory 14.5 rollers. Also, sled engaged 2-300 rpm higher. Runnability was excellent but sled was not as violent when riding. Started to get a black ring at the top of the primary, looked like might have had some slippage going on at warp speeds.

Went back to 14.5 and black ring went away. Imo...I prefer the 14.5 roller, upshift more aggressive and engagement lower. Just my findings.

Maybe try a roller somewhere in the middle? I have the 14.5, 15.5 and 16mm rollers. I have tried the 16mm and the stock 14.5 and found about what you did. I have yet to try the 15.5's

Right on.....I'm thinking once these 14.5s wear out I'll try the Thundershift 14.8s as they are a third the price and tad bigger.

I have the Thundershift 14.8mm rollers on mine, didn't even price the stocker replacements, are you saying the TPI rollers are 1/3 the $ of stock?

Has anyone ever tried Oilite or super oilite bronze bushings inside of a primary roller vs fiber? Why always fiber bushings?

Beerman, I have found the stock rollers as cheap as $43 each. I bought a set of TP rollers for $79

The only problem maybe the leaking of the lubricant from the oilite bushing.

Duralon bushings from Yamaha, press in a lot tighter into rollers

Thunder Products Clutching 14.8mm rollers are $79.95 for the set.

Also sell 15.8mm rollers for the same price of $79.95 for the set.

And to complete your Sidewinder, we have the SW secondary rollers for $45.00 for the set of 3.
