Studroes144 said:Matt is this the same kit that is being put on the mtx models for 2015 or are they a kit with an inner cooler? Also will this kit be coming available through yamaha accessories or is it strictly just an mpi kit? Just want to get a good grasp on what kits are being sold where. My guess is if yamaha is going to add it on as an accessory they will add some $ to the price?
This kit is different in layout but uses most of the same parts. All we changed is where the turbo gets mounted and what muffler we use. The intercooled kits we sold this year is similar to what Yamaha is getting as far as layout but without the intercooler. In order to get the turbo mounted as inboard as we could it requires that we relocate some of the stock components. This also enabled us to use a high volume quiet muffler. This adds to the cost and installs time of our kit. This low cost kit is designed in a way to deliver the same performance but to cut down on the cost and install time. This kit will never be offered to Yamaha. Yamaha requires a sound legal muffler. But that’s not saying that they won’t offer the non intercooled kit with the quiet muffler. We were the only ones that built a kit around a sound legal muffler because we knew what’s important to our customers. What’s the point of having a turbo if you always think you’re going to get a ticket? If you never need to worry about that then this is the kit for you.

Thanks for the info! Went for a ride today with Dale from D&D and we were talking about the different turbo options and the mpi kit was first on their list, he highly recommended the inner cooler kit but he said for the price of the trail kit and the hp that is gained that you can't go wrong if you are looking for an easy and reliable hp. Hopefully will be getting some pricing soon from them on what the kit will cost plus installation and tuning. He also said the gems controller is a good setup, that was my biggest concern as I am a big fan of the pcv but he said they can easily hook up a hand held afr gauge and tune the controller and once it's set then you'd be good to go. He also said there really is not a need for a boost gauge as they come set at the right boost #s and more the less the only reason to have one would just be precautionary. Do you agree that it isn't necessary to run a boost gauge or should one be installed regardless? I am hoping to have the kit as "stock" looking as possible so that nothing is noticeable from external view.

To do the quiet muffler requires mounting the turbo differently. Then to do that you need to move stuff and moving stuff cost money. So if you need the quiet muffler you need to stay with the stage 1 kit that we've been selling all year.

I agree. I can respect the desire to keep things stock looking. But I still think it’s nice to know everything is working likes it's designed. We try are best to make things as turn key as we can but its good insurance to run gauges.

I would highly recommend running a boost gauge. Melt or puncture the hose running from the turbo intake housing to the waste gate and the waste gate no longer knows it should be opening and you will run probably 12-13 lbs of boost and ruin the motor! Gauges are a GREAT thing, but I also understand the want for a "stealth" look as well.

Stealth can hurt when your engine blows and your sitting on the side of a trail broken cause you didn't want to run gauges.
