my XTX setup, ride and review

Ok, update as I tried a few more helix changes and spring changes and percentages in Munising (TY Giveaway)

I DO NOT like the white spring..... Totally lost top end, the clutches were hot and could hear the secondary pop back along with belt squeal when slowing down or taking off.

Went back to my original setup and it picked up again. Went with a much larger start angle and shallower finish angle compared to stock. It's putting so much power to the track it's carrying the skis till 85 now, after that the track starts to spin on the loose snow and then gets traction again, making the speedo climb once again to 98-99. I am leaving it with this setup, waiting for hard pack :)

Current setup is 64 lbs. front shocks, 130 rear fox shock, 11 threads on bottom of center shock showing, limiter straps 3rd hole from top, 1/4-1/2 toe out, stock skis with stock carbide, no picks, everything else stock (airbox, muffler, gearing...etc. 1,296 miles,

I believe it's the rear hydro hydronic torque converter clutch form a 1903 corvette.

Terry, you sharing everything? I want mine as fast as yours hahaha.... I rode his at the giveaway and wow I felt a difference.

I did see 93 Saturday on 5" fresh powder on the road, but corner to corner was too close, it felt it had a bit more.

Tuesday I might do some clutch comparisons and see what The differences are. It has to be faster then my buddies nytro. ;)! I will let you know of my findings.

My clutches are stock (no machining), primary is completely stock, the XTX weights and spring....never touched the primary as I felt is was working good. The secondary I put on a few helix's and tried different springs. A 45/39 helix has been the best for all around power, take off and top speed. The 47/41 was great on take off but only got 95 at best. The 51/37 was a monster on take off, but didn't seem to pull on top end. Plus the 51/37 seemed to slip the belt a lot and could hear the belt slipping on take off. I need to find a 47/39 to try. Tried a few springs and different percentages and it likes the pink on 3-3 or 6-1, the silver at 3-3, 6-1 or 6-2 for quick backshift. White spring.....I tried it but didn't like it.

All these little changes kept me around the 8,800-9,050 mark...but in soft snow they only pulled about 8,600 at best. The part that fools everybody is the "hook up pull" and that happens very rarely on the trail. The problem is you can clutch any sled, but if you back off the throttle, spin on soft snow or have stutter on the trail, the clutching will advance as much as possible to get full shift and will make it seem like it's not pulling correct rpm. Anytime that track looses traction, the clutching will shift and lower your rpm.

Trying some new things again soon.

So it's not the rear hydro clutch from the corvette? I am really lots! My hydro corvette clutch is working well.

Hahaha - Nope ;)

You went with the corvette, I went with the Viper ;)

Damn chevy parts :o|

That reminds me wtf is up with the alisson transmission not going into gear when its cold?

"Terry, you sharing everything? I want mine as fast as yours hahaha.... I rode his at the giveaway and wow I felt a difference. "

Definitely a difference between our sleds. Glad you liked how I have the clutching :)

Updating with latest results......

Front shocks - 65 lbs. (changed)

Rear shock - 130lbs.

Center shock - 14 threads showing now (changed, was starting to bottom out on washouts and jumps)

Limiter straps - 3rd hole

Stock skis with worn carbide still performing ok on setup trails...but pushing in soft snow. Still controllable, just not great for flotation.

Ride on stutter bumps is more noticeable now that I have more spring tension with the limiter straps left alone. But, I needed to adjust to keep from bottoming. Engine has been incredible for performance and found a helix that really works good all around. 46/40 helix is the ticket for anyone wanting the best take off and top end charge. No problem with getting the holeshot on any sled and no problem getting over 100mph. RPM's may be 8,800-8,900 but this sled is working and pulls hard. The pink spring set at 6-2 works well for trail and for snow drags, 3-3 is where you want to be. Sit your butt towards the rear of the seat, feet toward the back and it pulls the skis about 6 inches.

Guys I have not ridden Terry's VIper but his Nytro was quick and FAST so I would believe what you read. He is a helper.

Heck he modified my APEX on one trip with a two wheel rear Axel and we all made it home!!!!!!!!!!!

We had come across lake of the Woods at 80 ++ for 70- miles straight and when we turned down the river rear a wheel on my 11k+mile sled kept going as did SRX twinns 14k mile Apex and Previously Terry had given up one as a Donor from his Nytro. So Terry came up with a solution- two WHeels per Yamaha rear Axel and all went well.

Thanks again for saving the trip!

NOS, when you say limiter strap in the 3rd hole. Are you counting down or up?

3rd hole from being full extended, or 3rd hole from the top
