my XTX setup, ride and review

Guys I have not ridden Terry's VIper but his Nytro was quick and FAST so I would believe what you read. He is a helper.

Heck he modified my APEX on one trip with a two wheel rear Axel and we all made it home!!!!!!!!!!!

We had come across lake of the Woods at 80 ++ for 70- miles straight and when we turned down the river rear a wheel on my 11k+mile sled kept going as did SRX twinns 14k mile Apex and Previously Terry had given up one as a Donor from his Nytro. So Terry came up with a solution- two WHeels per Yamaha rear Axel and all went well.

Thanks again for saving the trip!

Thanks bud!

Wished we lived closer, you would love how I have the Viper setup :)

That was a great trip :)
And you wonder why I carry a whole toolbox set with me when I saddlebag....LOL
That was crazy how many rear wheels took a crap that trip, I was baffled myself, but there is always a way :)

Mine was all the way extended when I received it. Pulled the skis to the sky so I had to suck it down.

okay guys, did a lot of testing today and you won't believe the results!

trails open today and are flat as a pancake and hard as a rock. set up the timers and went with stock clutching first.
the stock belt was slipping so bad I couldn't get more than 76 mph in 660 ft. And only 86mph for a top speed.
Changed the belt as the clutches looked black from slipping. New belt and saw 88-89mph. With a top speed of 91mph

Went home, changed to my clutching and got 93mph top.

Ok, changed to 8dn belt and saw 91mph 660ft. And get this....top speed of 102mph. Rpm's were down so i went back and lightened the tip of the stock weights with a helix change to 47/40. Top speed 105.1! GPS don't lie :)

the 8DN works

here's the real shocker, because I took the newest 8 dn belt off of the nytro, I put the Viper belt on the Nitro and had to take the washers out. what's crazy is now the nytro is quicker and faster with the viper belt!!! 114mph on the dream meter!!!! Don't believe me nytro owners? Try it, i didn't believe it myself till i rode it. Temperatures are cool and the sleds are rockin! Win win win!

So, with my changes...here is my setup as of 2/24/14

All suspension settings are the same as my last post.

Clutching is 8DN belt change with the 3 extra shims added to the secondary rear 3 bolts. Helix is a 47/40 helix, pink spring (stock) at 3-3 (60%) primary is stock spring and weights but drilled into the tip rivots with a 1/8" drill to remove 2 grams for total weight.

Looks like the end of the season is near....

My setup remains the same.

Was a great year on the Viper and I couldn't be more happy with the performance and handling of this sled.

Going to start tearing it down to get it ready for asphalt season. There I can do more testing.

So you have a total of four shims in your secondary adjusting bolts?

No, the bolts on the rear of the secondary only have 2 washers (shims) on each bolt. Total of 6 if I would take all 3 bolts out (2 washers per bolt)

Back in the Nytro heyday several belt manufactors made softer belts for the Nytro to add performance, take a look at Tom Hartmans page on the details (he is advertiser here, link to his page in advertiser section).

I will check that out, thanks bud!

And you guys are going to love this one!

1st of all, tried an Arctic Cat belt 0627-047 and nothing but problems.

Back to the 8DN belt and tried STingray's setup or idea. Awesome results!!!! Smoother engagement, lower engagement and just pull pull pull.... RPM's 9,020-9,130

Found a set of weights in my clutching box, 8FP weights and removed all of the rivots. Put in a Green White Green primary spring with a 2mm spacer behind the spring. Kept my 47/41 helix on with a pink spring set at 3-3. Went out on perfectly groomed trails (passed groomer going out). the very first raise on the trail....I wacked the throttle about 20mph and stood it right up!!!! It felt so strong and just pulled my arms! YEAH!!!! Lined up next to my Nytro and on take off pulled 4 lengths right out of the hole! I was like.....no way!!!! Did it again going back and was 2 full lengths as I spun a little. Ran a full bore run on the road, got 97mph but was feeling very icy and was moving side to side, so I backed off.

Went back to the trailer and tried a green (soft) secondary spring. Went out and it felt doggy...no performance and the Nytro walked me.

Went back and tried so many helix's and springs. The stock 43 helix works but hit the rev limiter constanty in powder or soft trail. Hard pack like this morning worked better but still pinged the rev limiter. Pink was 3-3 .

My final test results are 8FP weights bare, G/W/G primary spring, 2mm spacer, 45/39 helix with pink 3-3. top speed on loose snow was 97mph. The hard pack trail I wish had long straight -aways....but talk about pull the skis whenever you want :)

This sled is a rocket now!!!!! Totally different sled!!!

I have videos I am downloading that my Nytro is 4 lengths in front of me and I damn near ram him in the #*$&@! I let off got back on and passed my Nytro :) Plus, in the powder it just launches the sled out of deep snow. So many test runs and on an 8DN with many miles on it.

T, with that setup your RPM launch would be higher? What did your clutches hit at launch? Have you tried different rollers. I’ve found that 120 kb/total force seems to work with the 15mm rollers vs. 15.6mm rollers. Thanks for the info, I’ll give it a try after I get my sled back from the dealer.

Almost EXACT same results I have from that primary spring setup. Sure feels good to have the Viper run like it should! This is for real folks.

Thanks!

Mike, stock rollers, 8FP weights empty, no grinding or polishing.... G/W/G primary spring with a 2 mm spacer is 3,100 engagement. It's by far the best setup for taking off and pull. I want to try the 8BU weights and see where that gets me....but I hate to say it....but I believe the season is over.

This is "if" I was able to get back to Munising and do some more testing. I would put a 43 straight helix or maybe a 45/41 with pink set at 3-3 and add some tip weight to get my maximum rpm around 8,800 with the 8FP weights.

I need to post the videos cause proof is in the video of me damn near running into my Nytro when my son and I set up our races and I gave him 4 lengths each time. I could have gave him 6 lengths and still catch him in less than 1/8 or 3/4 mile.

I'm so glad I talked with you as the stock weights are not grabbing that belt like it is supposed to.

My forearms were hard as a rock yesterday and today they are sore....LOL

Your welcome bud! ;)!
