New Heavy Duty/High performance clutching for My Sidewinder this season

I have found now too that even the 825 needs more secondary side pressure. Adding helix or reducing the spring pressure exasperates the slippage so keep the spring wrapped tight.

Rollers in the secondary also have a big effect in side pressure, I find the stock Yamaha rollers require less wrap where the hi-torque fiber rollers require even more wrap to have the same side-pressure on my drill press scale. The 35 helix even needs heavy secondary springs on the XS belt.
Yes Im running the tp rollers on mine, not sure how those act vs the stockers or high torques. I have a 37/33 as well and that showed improvement but I ran out of time to ride so Ill revisit it tommorow or saturday.

Got this beauty in last week. 110% satisfied thus far. Extremely easy to setup and incredible belt grab. Clutch runs so cool its almost unbelievable. Worked a bit this week on measuring /verifying/achieving correct offset. Will try and find some time this weekend to continue testing some different helix/spring combos. Its an expensive purchase no doubt but I have zero regrets on the purchase. The quality is unreal and fast to make adjustments. Great addition for the winders.
Justinator, do you have a weight on that?

got the srx out yesterday on the lake , started out with the Tapp primary and a stm secondary , 46/36 purple spring , this combo felt fine but would not give me more then 130 mph , I was not getting into a full shift on my secondary clutch or overdrive , then I switched to my stock Yamaha secondary with a dalton 35 , b/o 6-3 , wow what a difference 137 , mid range to top end pull is insane , the Tapp and stock secondary works great together , the Tapp is super easy to tune ,

I tried a 37 degree helix in the stock secondary yesterday but did not ride in any areas were I could get a long run. I felt decent corner to corner but I need to do some more testing.

When you say, out on the lake, how far are you talking? Half mile, mile, ....etc...if you explain in kilometers, I’ll have to some math which isn’t my strong suit! Lol

It's tough to beat the stock secondary, that said I bet if you went to say a straight 42 or so in the STM it may show you some speed as well.

If it were me I wouldn't bother with changing the secondary out for an aftermarket clutch, the primary though, IMO the TAPP is the one to have when going aftermarket and spending the bucks.

Where are you guys buying this TAPP clutch and how much? Do they come with weights, spring and everything?
Sounds like this clutch is WAY more efficient. Better squeeze on the lemon!

Turbo Dynamics has them in stock with free shipping and after their coupon code they had the best price I could find. Tommcat sells them too but was out of stock and was about $100 more before shipping. They come fully assembled and ready to install. They also include some bolts, set screws and washers for tuning adjustments. Prices went up after june 2020 so youll be looking at $1500 ish

Im not having much luck with the v2 b/o spring. Originally I had belt slip issues in the secondary up top even with a helix with a shallow finish....33 degrees. After adjusting my offset for the tapp and bringing the secondary out an additional 2mm I went out to test again and started with the 37/33 and b/o at 90 and low top speed. Took apart secondary and zero signs of belt slip now. I went to 35 same spring same tension and there was an improvement but not much. Went to 37 same spring tension again and gained more speed with still no evidence of slip. Rode 150 miles yesterday with the wife and lowered tension on the b/o spring to 80 and no improvement in speed but better average belt temps and better acceleration. still find it too much spring. at steady cruising speeds of 70-80mph the secondary is always trying to backshift, feels like clutches fighting each other,. This may not be noticeable to those who dont have trail systems that allow miles and miles of cruising at midrange speeds like that or maybe its just my sled. The temps were cold so belt temps were good regardless but hard to say how they would be on warmer days and softer snow. Prior to correcting my offset I was liking the black/tan more than the b/o in the midrange especially. Better pull and lower cruise rpms.
