Doesn't matter of it performs better... Even if the performance is the same, You can ride without the worry of it taking your head off. Plus it's quiet! That's why I'm going to visit Tommcat if we ever get some snow this year!
Good point.
Tom says it’ll be like a whole new machine with just the way it’ll grab the belt so hard and quick. He said the pull out of the hole will be a night and day difference from the stock clutches. Also with the addition of the new SS SM Tune bundle from Hurricane, and it should be an absolute Animal off the line and through the mid range. And the peace of mind should be/will be very nice as you pointed out.
Was supposed to be in N. Maine tonight, but had to cancel due to poor conditions currently.
I feel your pain. We are usually riding by now. Do you have a TD GPS? I'd like to see some numbers when you get it out. I have the stock primary working very good. The sheaves have a mirror finish to them, but I know it's only a matter of time until the whole thing comes un-glued.

No, No GPS. Hopefully everything stays together for you for a long while to come. I’ll report back here when I get to test her out, on how well it all works? Certainly Hoping for some good performance that’s for sure.

Was going to go out today and test my set up on my TAPP and Pro-4. Rain may have ruined my plans.

Didnt know you had a Pro 4 secondary as well? Hopefully the rain doesn’t wash too much snow away for you.

Well I didn't get much riding in but will say this, the stiffer secondary spring (120-180) I installed this fall seems to be the Cockford-Ollie. I think I can now begin to add a little weight back to the arms in the primary. That TAPP primary shift so aggressively that some shallower helix angles or stiffer secondary springs are needed. I wish I had a 32 degree finish helix to try with the white spring, and maybe some +1 rollers vs. the +2 I currently have.

Where did you guys purchase the TAPP clutches? I ran a web search and only came up with one distributor in the states. Also wondering about clutch alignment???? Total cost if you don't mind sharing? I am definitely interested in a set of these clutches.

Seems guys are starting spring for Tapp's. I'm up in the UP with my new turbo, just rode 300 miles last 2 days (I had the Tapp on my old turbo for 2500 miles) The Tapp clutch is awesome, that's all I can say. I now have a belt temp gauge and temps range from 140 to 190, and it's 40 degrees out. 2 simple adjustments to tune my new 300hp tune. Make sure you use the +1 rollers and I run a 43/32 helix in an STM (cat old school) secondary. I also run $100 XS belts which are fantastic. Love this sled with these clutches...

I guess I need to make an order. Pretty telling if you run the +1 rollers with a 300 hp tune. My rollers are too big at +2. Did you buy ski-Doo rollers or straight from TAPP? What kind of arm weight/bolt length combo do you run?

I got/ordered +1 Rollers right from Powder lites when we ordered the TAPP. I did that cuz you all said last year that was the best route to go. I have 43/34 Dalton helix and a Dalton Black/Purple spring in Pro 4 Secondary. I too have an Ultimax XS 825 belt on my set up...but Have yet to try it out..but can’t wait.

TAPP is the Primary only; and it’s made by Powder Lites. A company out west where mountain/powder riding is very popular.
I chose to change my secondary too, and went with a Pro 4 Secondary. Pro 4 is its own company out of Michigan. Very high quality and customer oriented company.
A performance shop in Massachusetts is a TAPP dealer/distributor. They did my work and set me up.

Is there a performance reason why you went this route (TAPP/Pro 4) instead of STM or something from Hurricane? Thanks

The performance shop that did my work, did extensive testing on clutch combos for the 998 Turbos, and they felt that the TAPP and Pro 4 was the best high performance clutching combo for the 998.

The Tapp movable roller and fixed ramp design (ski doo like) plus its ease of tuning and the fact that for the price, all the components are included make it the best choice IMO. The roller and ramp geometry is even more aggressive than a ski Doo design. And the build quality is Swiss watch territory.
