New Heavy Duty/High performance clutching for My Sidewinder this season

I've done a ton of testing on the old school secondary. I ended up liking 43/32 helix the best which I had STM custom make. Once you get the helix right it's a set and forget affair. You won't do much messing around if you use that to start.
Contacted STM, they still want another $75 to custom cut this helix, total $128.

Is that a gen 1 stm secondary your speaking of ?

That sucks. At the time, they told me once it's programed it's available. The 32 finish is the more important part to control heat on the long stretches...

Jeez that Tapp must really squeeze the belt!
I just might have to try a 34 or 32 finish, my clutches are pretty hot after a lake pull. I would also like to ditch the STM orange secondary spring and go back to the Cat green. The orange gets me more mph but runs warmer just trail riding than the Cat green.

Dalton can cut you one also.

Dalton no longer cuts special angles for that type of helix according to their website . 38-32 is the only thing close from them.

There old style arctic cat helixes. Hurricane was selling them for $62

If I remember correct Dalton also could not go down to the 32 angle on their equipment, and STM had to confirm they could, which they did. That 32 finally fixed my heat issue on the very long pulls.

The TAPP does have increadible squeeze, it's really unlike anything out there including ski-doo's. It's all based on the geometry of those arms/rollers starting fully parallel to the shaft (unlike the ski-doo which starts at ~45 degrees) IMO. Also the dual cut sheave angle helps too. It's an amazing clutch and sooo easy to tune trail side.

I know, I have a box full of them from the "old" days. unfortunately all the sizes we used to use have no application in the 4 stroke turbo world.

Dalton does also have straight cut 31 and 33 and 37/33, 36/28,35/33,36/28,40/30 and 40/32 one of them may work, and of course he also has an assortment of cat secondary springs.

Where are you seeing those? I see the lowest as a 38-32 or a straight 36?

Dam I’d go with the 60/25 helix!
:drink:
WTF

Stain,i have no idea where you found all those cuts that you have listed. But if you go to his Yamaha side under YSR 2017 sidewinder helix,s they are listed,he has single cuts that are 31,33,35,36,37,38,39,41,and 47 than all sorts of multi cuts and reverse angle cuts as well. Good luck,if all else fails call and ask for Dale.

Those are cuts for the old school Arctic Cat roller clutches. They are used in the gen2 STM secondary

OMG Dalton has figured this #*$&@ out!
Look at all the cuts below 35 finish angle!

For those of you having issues blowing belts on top end and low top speeds, might I suggest a 36/28 helix.
