New Heavy Duty/High performance clutching for My Sidewinder this season

Is there a performance reason why you went this route (TAPP/Pro 4) instead of STM or something from Hurricane? Thanks
also STM says right on their site that their primary is not recommended for the Nytro or Ski-Doo 3 cylinder engines.
this is right from their site. "No warranty on Nitro 1000 or Ski-Doo Triple motors as we do not recommend running these clutches on them."
No warranty on a $1300 piece means no way I was going to purchase one.

I wonder if the non-warranty applies to Sidewinders. Hurricane and TD both sell STM clutches on their websites. It would seem like both those tuners selling the same brand clutches would mean the clutches are good quality and work with their tunes.

I got/ordered +1 Rollers right from Powder lites when we ordered the TAPP. I did that cuz you all said last year that was the best route to go. I have 43/34 Dalton helix and a Dalton Black/Purple spring in Pro 4 Secondary. I too have an Ultimax XS 825 belt on my set up...but Have yet to try it out..but can’t wait.
I hope u can share your results once u can get out , I also am interested in Tapp , a friend of mine has Tapp on he's turbo 1200 ski doo and says its great , as for the 825 belts great belt but for some reason its not great for top speeds

I will certainly let you know what my findings are with these new clutches as soon as I can get it on snow. As far as the XS belt goes...I think that idea of it being a little lower on R’s won’t apply to these new clutches as much, or at all. If it’s lower I just adjust accordingly though. But I’m not thinking these brutes are gonna behave like the stock clutching at all.

Seems guys are starting spring for Tapp's. I'm up in the UP with my new turbo, just rode 300 miles last 2 days (I had the Tapp on my old turbo for 2500 miles) The Tapp clutch is awesome, that's all I can say. I now have a belt temp gauge and temps range from 140 to 190, and it's 40 degrees out. 2 simple adjustments to tune my new 300hp tune. Make sure you use the +1 rollers and I run a 43/32 helix in an STM (cat old school) secondary. I also run $100 XS belts which are fantastic. Love this sled with these clutches...

So the stock secondary will not work well with the TAPP? Also wondering about alignment. I'm far from a clutching guru and typically only ride on trips. Tinkering with clutching isn't what I want to spend a lot of time on as I don't get much chance to ride anyway.

Oh I hear ya about not wanting to waste time with too much tinkering!!

But it’ll(stock secondary)work, and the improvement in performance from the stock primary to the TAPP will be significant. But as I was told by a very knowledgeable mechanic/clutching expert, “it’s not like the stock secondary hasn’t proven that it’s not a piece of junk too!” So in my opinion...if I was really going to invest this type of money into the clutching, I might as well go the extra $800 dollars and do it up right, and realize the Full potential of them(primary and secondary) working together , and be Done with it!

But you can just get a TAPP primary and use it with the stock secondary if you wanted to. And it’ll be a lot better than what you have now.

Why did you buy Tap insted of Pro4 primary?

From reading and research and recommendations ...the TAPP seems to be the best Primary out there currently, from a performance and Tune-ability and Durability standpoint. So that’s what made me go with the TAPP.

I have a similar setup with a TAPP clutch and a STM roller secondary on my 2018 XF9000 High Country 153. My secondary has an AC green Snopro spring and a fixed rate secondary ramp at 42. I'm going to start of running the TAPP with the factory settings. My chaincase is 21/41. I also have a 22 top gear after my chain breaks in some, it was too tight to put in as this is a brand new sled with new Scott Taylor gears and chain. I haven't been able to make it out on the snow yet so I have no real idea yet how this will work. It sure would be nice to know how exactly the clickers adjust, how switching the ramp from A to B works and then what exactly adding weights does. I'm sure this info will help with all the new TAPP clutches being sold and new users around.

I've done a ton of testing on the old school secondary. I ended up liking 43/32 helix the best which I had STM custom make. Once you get the helix right it's a set and forget affair. You won't do much messing around if you use that to start.

I got the TAPP from powder lites and the secondary was a new take off from a Private individual. They had set it up for wifes sled and she preferred stock so they took it back off.

I have the Tapp clutch already and considering buying the pro4. Do any of you guys run these clutches in the mountains. if so I could use helix advice.
thanks Steve
