Does the newest top gear have a different bushing?
The new one looks more "silvery" compared to the old "bronzey" looking bushing.

The old one was actually good with 10,000 miles on it unless it was changed without me knowing.

Same bushing, just the lower pic has the coating worn off is all. Top pic is still new. Under the coating is a bronze bushing.

No it's the same . Bought one half way through last year looked silver , I just took it out it turned bronze

OCD that gear bushing is toast. Once the coating is worn off they are just about ready to start coming out of gear.

That gear has 10,000 miles on it.
I was expecting it to look like my buds' at 4000 that was completely shot.
I bought the bushings you suggested.
My plan is to see how the new gear with 3 holes works.
Next year i'll put the new bushing in & every year after that just put a new bushing in.
I'm going to MIC the results & record them.

I will definitely pull this chain case apart & tear through it EVERY year

I did notice how the center post is worn, i think from a loose chain, so this tensioner HAS to be checked regularly, but it's a PITA when sled left up North.

BTW: If anyone is interested, i use Amsoil Chain Oil & a touch of NRG Release above the sight glass with tension 1 turn out when i check it which will be A LOT more now that i've seen the inner workings of this case.

That silver material is a tin plate which is basically a protective coating. We use the same material on engine bearings for certain applications. Its a sacrificial layer is all.

It’s not tin it’s PTFE

Steve not understanding. Are you saying you will be running the chain with more than one turn out?

No, my bad
I'll be checking the chain tension A LOT more often
I used to check my Apex chain quite often, but i didn't have to remove 4 tons of chit to get to it neither
I think i'll change the chain & top gear bushing every year now along with the brake bearing
Assuming i put on 4000 miles or more

Our DMC heavy duty bushing and gear will solve your top gear bushing issues.

Mine looked the same as that at 12000kms. I changed it just because I was paranoid at the beginning of the season with all the failures. I have 2000kms on a new 3 hole top gear this season, I might pull it open tomorrow to see what it looks like and do an oil change. I run 1 turn out as well, and check often. Usually put mercruiser high performance outdrive lube in the chaincase.
