Started working on the yamaha tonight. Pulling the motor to add headshim and do cam timing. Also will be installing a HKS ball bearing turbo in place of the old gt25 journal bearing turbo that was on it. This is the first time I have worked on a yamaha and I cannot believe how heacy everything is built. I guess that is good though. Have toyed with thoughts of a new header to make it a side mount like the boondockers kit. But right now I am not sure I want to make that many changes as they sled has 3000 miles on it and I am assuming that since it has lasted this long it was a good design. Just wanting to use some of the newer concepts. Ball bearing turbo and head spacer, Also thinking of meth injection and removing the snow to air intercooler.
Here is the sled how I bought it.
Old turbo and new turbo
Engine compartment. Alot of work yet. to get the motor out.

Wow thats a wild set up
Like a front mount turbo set up with some kind of tunnel intercooler thingy?

Boost
They were running 11-12 lbs of boost.
It has a snow to air intercooler. I was told that it does work well. I just bought the sled this summer. And I want to do some upgrading to it. Would love to make it into a front mount like alpine or powderlites But have not been able to find a cheap front mount header. Or would also like to make it a side mount like boondocker. Either way I would get rid of the snow to air and but on a air to air with meth injection.
If anyone has a oil tank for a boondocker setup or at least a pic of the oil tank that boondocker used and a pic of it mounted that would maybe set that into motion or a front mount header as well.
If I can't find these things I will put it back together the way it was but with the bigger turbo.

dirk_03 - congrats on your new sled
You may consider starting a build thread in the 4stroke sled garage section. Anyway good luck on your build.

Mid mount
After furth consideration I am going to convert the sled to a mid mount. I ordered up the 321 stainless tubing today. A little spendy but It will be worth it. Going to run a ski doo rev tank. And figured out that I can trim the inside of my boss seat so I can still run that as the rev seat makes the sled look a big funny in my opinion. And I really like the boss seat. Unsure if what i am going to run for an intercooler yet. If it will be a water to air or a air to air with meth injection. Thinking of building a water pump to go on the mag end of the motor like MCxpress has for the return oil pump. Should be able to use a motorcycle water pump. That would be a fool proof way of pumping water for the water to air setup, over an electric pump.
Will be planning to do a build thread in the sled garage once this gets started.
Hoping for constructive critism about the way to inter cool the motor.

I would not see any improvement by going sidemount over your current setup.
You may consider a water to air intercooler instead... that is WAYYYYYY more efficient.
I do have a complete water to air intercooler system for rx1 here if interested.

Mid Mount.
As stated in my last post I am going to a mid mount. This will give me some more room up front and keep the heat out of the engine compartment. 321 stainless is order and I will have welding shop working on it here this fall. looks like 5 inch tube lengths on the header. Should have quick spool. Also I am interested in going water to air. I have a couple ideas in my head to eliminate having to run an electric water pump as well.
