Oil Change Access

I have nylock nuts and 1 1/4" long bolts (black) On mine. Start at the front and work back to the footwells. Used a sport bumper for front protection. I still have pictures of the footwells with fastener locations if interested. The nylock nuts are a little longer than standard nuts. Insure the bolt protrudes through a thread or so or else you have not caught the nylon torque retention part of the nut.

Yeah either Brayden or I had to have hit something with the viper and the plastics underneath were damaged. Yammi skid plate installed over summer, but I haven't even seen the sled yet, curious to see if the plate stays on unlike those for my MTX and Phazer in the past where ice build up caused them to fall off. Guess I'll find out soon! The dealer has had it so much that I've done NOTHING myself in terms of maintenance, so I'm not familiar with how to tear down things or do an oil change yet, they've done it all. Waiting on new LCD screen, new limiter strap, fuel clamp recall work and fuel mapping update. This sled has had more growing pains than a teething toddler.

Stacking layers can be a bad way to go for alot of riders. Moisture gets in between the layers and once things freeze things start going sideways. Layers separate and fasteners get ripped out. Not a fan of the plastic bolt on skid plates.

I pulled my skid protector tonight and had a hard time removing access cover for oil filter as torx screws were not turning. Now I need new ones so going to try find something other than torx heads. Feel free to chime in. Anyways I can see exactly where the screws hit my skid protector so I took the oil filter plate and traced it on my skid. I plan on cutting that piece out of the protector to easily access the oil plate but havent figure out how to fasten the cut out back up there for easy removel. Any ideas?

I would get longer screws and screw through both the skid and the stock plate. Counter sunk would work best.

It looks like that would work as there are enough other screws holding the rest of skid in place. Wow I was way over thinking this. Thanks Cannondale. Lol

Can any one comment on the size of the access cover? Can it be slightly smaller and still get the filter in or out when doing an oil change?

Make sure you have the right size torx, if it does not fit tight in the torx but has a little wiggle it is not the right one. I think the right one is 27 if I remember right and a 25 is much more common and fits but will strip the torx. Somebody correct me if I have the torx size wrong.

Thanks. I am replacing them with longer ones with a different head.

I have mine off so I can post pics of plate and oil filter area tonight.

Anybody know what thread size those bolts that holds the oil filter access plate up. Bolt size as well.

Your compromising the strength of the skid plate cutting it. You only have to do it once a yr so just take the whole plate off
I have a plastic skid plate protector I put on it. I havent cut the hole yet in it but with the 4 screws that hold it up It appears it will be solid.

Picked up some new bolts today M6 x25 flat head. Should be able to countersink them and fasten into access cover.

Thats my thought as well.
Although i don't have a skidplate on mine yet (supposed to get mine oct 30)
i am not really getting what the big issue is with removing the skidplate for an oil change.
Are the fasteners impossible to reach??
