Oil change,Front frame removal and starter removal Pics

Where's the new oil go?

True.Removing front end isnt in the manual though.

Drain oil from motor and tank and add oil to the tank refering to manual for amounts.

Not to be redundant, but NO oil is added directly to the engine, it all goes in the tank - Correct?

I thought I had read to add ½ qt. to the engine and the rest in the tank...

That is correct. All oil goes into the tank.

Put about 1.5qts in then start motor and let it idle for a few minutes then shut it off and check the dipstick.Add oil till full mark. You will end up with a total of about 3qts when oil and filter are changed.

Oil level is checked with dipstick set in hole.Do NOT thread it in.

good job cannondale, but thats definately NOT my idea of fun lol, no wonder my dealer was bitchin he had 12 hours into a 6hour job. thats all yamaha would pay him lol no wonder he wants me on a skidoo lol. he couldnt afford it if i bought a new yamaha lol

Its only a once a year thing so when its still green outside just pull sled in and have at it when you have time. Not a big deal.

Great post

A K&N #KN147 oil filter has a 17mm hex on the top that will make its installation and removal a breeze - after you get all the panels, air box and other crap out of the way.

Cannondale, Nice job with the pics. I got the filter out and now have to put stuff back together. Not to bad of a job...Its about 40* out so its nice to be out with no jacket. Just a tip to someone new, take your time, look at the pics, and its relativly easy...Except for getting the stock filter out; thats the most difficult.

Thanks a million for posting this. It made a crappy job a whole lot easier... The only problem I had was getting that S.O.B oil filter off. Brute force and ignorance saved the day. ;)! (I wound up using Channellock oil filter pliers with a set of slip-joints squeezing 90 degrees to the handles of the filter pliers and pushing sideways (if that makes any sense). I couldn't squeeze / pull hard enough with the filter pliers alone. My knuckles have finally stopped bleeding.

My 12" slip-joints wouldn't work and I shortened the handle on a strap type oil filter wrench and that didn't work either. Not sure if I'd do this again unless I had one of those elusive Yamaha filter wrenches.

Just take the next step and take whole front end off.I havent tried it with my idea of flipping the bolt in linkage but it sure looks like I wont even need to remove airbox or anything else associated with airbox removal like I had to do first time.Glad it helped a little though.

wow. you do an oil change the hard way. the dealer told my dad how to do it and it was way easier and was really easy when we did it. to drain the engine oil you just go from the bottom of the sled, you will see a plastic cover(remove it) then you see the filter and the engine oil drain plug, drain both of those, then take off the right side body panel thing and drain that oil. you be able to do an oil change like that in about 30min.

I had the dealer change the breakin oil and put a K&N oil filter on... now I just drop the oil and leave the filter.
