Mpi? If so there was a updated breather kit with fitting in canter of sidecover. If you don’t have that then that’s your issue.

Well one of the girls that ride with us just bought a 2015 Viper RTX with 1600 miles on it from a dealer in wis. She road it one time she went to fill it up with fresh gas yesterday and guess what, she started it, left it warm up went to leave oil light came on and motor shut down with oil all over the fresh snow. She called the dealer and they said it happened once before to this machine and just thaw it out and it will be ok. Well I picked it up this morning and took off side panels to see what the deal was and what a mess there is oil every where and leaking out of the seam of the air box. I guess a better get some paper towel and brake cleaner what a mess.

Ok cleaned out oil separator with water and dawn dish soap, lightly blew some air through it and sprayed it good with WD/40. There was some water in the separtor when I took it off. I guess my next question is what is gonna stop this from happening again. The air box and the whole under side was just coated with oil unbelievable mess why would they not have a hose coming out of the bottom of the air box to the outside of the belly pan.

So I was out for another ride yesterday and my buddy noticed my 18’ viper was leaking again while stopped. Very cold out and lots of snow dust as I was at the back of the pack most of the day. I always fill up the tank with oil to the maximum whenever I’m doing oil changes. So now it’s down to 3/4 on the dipstick.
I took airbox out and it was caked in oil as well as everywhere else in the sled. Took the oil separator off and cleaned it out. Ball was not frozen as it was in my heated shop overnight so really no way to know if it was frozen yesterday. My top speed was 146km/hr yesterday and normally I can get to 160km/hr easily, and as good as conditions were it was definitely not hard packed trails. Lots of track spin. I’m really hoping this isn’t blowby as the engine only has 7500kms or so. But it did feel a little flat in the top end yesterday. Sled definitely pulls hard down low and mid-range. Is there a way to know forsure if this could be blowby? Anything I could look for?
I have also never taken off the oil separator before and cleaned it. There was a bit of oil in there but nothing major. So maybe that’s all it is, I really don’t know though. Any thoughts on any of this would be great! I’ll attach some pictures below. Thanks guys!

lots of oil on the inside and outside of the airbox, also a very very light film of oil on the intake ducts? Really hoping it’s just the oil separator.

Vent that hose that goes into the air box to the atmosphere and run it out the bottom of the belly pan. You won't have anymore problems with oil in you sir box.

I can’t believe no body makes a catch can to run the vent hose into instead of the airbox. At least with a catch can if it pukes oil you can dump it from the catch can back into the oil tank

I would guess any vented catch can would work . Just reroute from the separator to the catch can and plug the hole in the airbox.

I've already ran a high temp. hose from the separator tube that went into the airbox down through a hole I drilled in the plastic about 4" behind the muffler and put a plug in the grommet that is in the airbox.I would guess any vented catch can would work . Just reroute from the separator to the catch can and plug the hole in the airbox.

I had big problems with my nytro filling the air box with syrup like slop, it would drip and run down the engine. For awhile i thought i had engine issues. Once i bypassed that vent to the belly pan the intake stayed clean and bone dry.
Did the same on the SW, and have no issues there with oil/moisutre on the intake or intercooler.
I think many underestimate on start up - how much moisture gets baked out of the oil as the engine warms up.

Have you been able to narrow down the air box getting oil in it at startup? Could it be a faulty separator or is this just what we have to deal with being Yamaha owners?I had big problems with my nytro filling the air box with syrup like slop, it would drip and run down the engine.
