Pilot 6.9 ski's installed

So if I get a set of Pilot's for my Sidewinder, are they a perfect swap? Or do I need to purchase anything else to make them fit?? My dealer will be putting them(the Pilot's) on when they set it up for me if I decide to buy them right from the start??
Sorta.....just go back to OP and read first page or two here.

You can show this to your dealer, as the stock SW rubbers need a slight mod....I have to do my own sled here too, if it shows up ever! lol Pretty straight forward mod to make the stock rubbers fit in between pilot and SW spindle foot.

I got a new pair of 5.7s last week at the Excell drags, I'll be getting the 8" shaper bars tommorow at Big East Show. Moved the stock 4" bars to the outside as per Dan's setup. Looking to get studs, backers, tunnel protector's, 4th wheel kit, tunnel bag, hand guards, mounts, mirrors, windshield and tunnel flares! Man it'll be like Christmas came early for me on Sunday!

Nice list! Im doing much the same, I have most of mine already here but no sled yet.lol

I like the SE window for cold days and got one on order. Grab your JT axle fast, as sale ends soon! Got mine for 30 off. CB performance has sale going on carbides and studs too. Best pricing I found.

Dan, where did you get the two different size Hex bolts and nuts for the ski loops?? Went to a home depot and they don't have anything like that in stainless steel. Maybe I can order them from the place you got them???

I like the idea of the bolts and nuts instead of the rivets for the loops as you suggested. Thanks in advance...I appreciate it.

Also, I think I'm going to order my studs through CB Performance as well(good prices as you said). Do the Nuts come with the studs...or are those a separate item/additional price, like the washers??

Many times when I need a real specific bolt ect, I go online to McMaster-Carr. https://www.mcmaster.com/

Not as cheap, and sometimes you need to buy a box of 5 or 10 or 50(nuts), but you can search for exact sizes, and quality of stainless steel you need. Many online bolt places around. I know I wanted SS and not to have them hang out for a good look.

Yes CBPerformance sells woodys packs, even though he allows for any/all Qty they are all from Woodys packs which always come with Nuts. 1.450 come with MED-Tall nuts, and the 1.575 come with TALL-Tall nuts, shorter studs come with normal smaller nuts. The "talls" are Aluminum while standards are steel(below 1.325)

Backers are always a separate item....I would stick to rounds for singles or doubles.

as studs go..woody's would be my almost my last choice...not a fan of the tall stud shoulder which leads to less track capture( 15 lbs max torque on nut since the backer often bottoms out)...this leads to greater deflection and possibility of pullouts....although bruce would be my first choice for studs...

back to the 6.9's...Ive got a couple new sets of shapers for pilots laying around

Just left big east snowmobile show and picked up white and black marble 6.9s $415 for everything but rivets, going with stainless hardware. 8" round and 4" square carbides. Never drove it with the tuners, just going to sell them. Also DuPont slides. Can't wait for snow

anyone ever notice loss of top end from running with the dual runner (even though on is higher)?

No but I am sure the carbide does drag especially on soft ice or snow may even be dragging in ground. Getting back and low always helps speed.

6" shapers in the middle and 4"shapers on the outside seems to work best as in the AM the longer runners in the middle bite too much and the round bars on the outside don't bit enough mid day .

I tried many setups with shapers, I did not like them on outers as it increased the effort exponentially on FIRM days and increases darting. On soft days sure you need more depth for sure, but not many like to swap setups day to day.lol

I only will run the whimpy SQUARE stockers on outers which are tiny, I wont even run a 1/2" round out there, just me but I like the lightest effort.

I even ran them with NO outers, as they come stock without holes drilled out there, and for much of the time that works very well. But the ski outer will wear out very fast, so I always run the stock 4" Squares.

Again this is not an aggressive setup, and is not meant to be. So IMO if you want aggressive, you are better off with another ski rather then adding big carbides to outers of a pilot. Pilot is not designed to be aggressive, its designed to help effort and darting on extreme rider forward sleds, it was made to aid the new 03 rider forward designed models from doo. They were released in late 05 if I recall correctly(orig Pilot)

If you want more aggressive, you simply order up the Pilot R ski instead. Its a single keep "c&a look alike" that corners more aggressively. But that takes away all the things I like. Skis are a very subjective thing that can never be a "one size fits all" thing. However I do believe that overall, the pilot 6.9 is the best ski for the majority of handling issues the SW has in stock form.
