Polaris relays freeze up too.

I wonder when we'll ever be able to get solid state relays.

Wouldn't you think Cat or Yamaha would be looking for a different source. It's a bummer the sealed Polaris ones are still not good in the cold.

Part of the reason they don’t use a solid state relay is they tend to burn up with inductive loads. Motors of any kind have large inrush current when turned on, and high voltage spikes when turned off. This has a tendency to breakdown the junction of the transistor. They are also more expensive to manufacturer, that’s probably the biggest reason. The biggest problem with these tiny little junk relays is they are manufactured for under a $1 each. When the bean counters start doing the math on how much more $$$$ it will cost to use solid state relays.....well you see the outcome. Been an issue for a long time.

Oh I should add that many solid state relays have a very small amount of leakage current, this could over time, cause batteries to drain while sitting.

Great info

Rock starts with a "sealed" relay and takes it one step farther with an epoxy to ensure it keeps moisture out.

They are $20 each. I will have them up on website soon.

The pic of the Ulmer relay looks just like the Polaris relays I have....

It is. I just ordered two last week and when I pulled back the black tape it says Polaris right on it.

id like to get one for the Just in case !! don't see it on the web page yet though.

Ya know if you just have another stock relay sealed up in your pocket that’s been in your warm lodging all night you can just swap in the unfrozen one in your pocket in place of the frozen one.

In all my years riding in groups with as many a 8 delta box sleds in the group I have witnessed the frozen relay once on my own sled and once on 1 other sled. I still have a red Apex relay wrapped up in my jacket pocket waiting to be used. Couldn’t even say how long I’ve been carrying it.

Rode in Quebec last week , -36 dash will go blank and loose all bar and thumb heat , stop for a few minutes , under hood heat will fix. Restart all normal !

Yamaha designed the red relay for the apex which is a solid state fuel pump relay, they must have one for the sidewinder by now
