Trying to decide on who's muffler and tune to go with and it's hard to tell what mufflers provide the added benefit of access to the chaincase and what ones don't. I'm basically looking for the quietest one that does.

Check out the hurricane-Hindle exhaust. The muffler has a deep tone and is the lightest in the industry. It also provides easy access to the chain adjuster. This muffler works well with the hurricane flashes

I am in the same boat as you snowdust. My next question would be what does said can have for a baffle. Is it a metal baffle that won't get louder or is it just a glass pack muffler. Wish there was a quiet muffler with a metal baffle that didn't require a tune as I am just looking for easy access to the chain case, any added performance would be a bonus.

For my area, it does not exist. I have ran a few mufflers and heard many. None will pass legally for sound levels. Sure you might get past a checkpoint but sooner or later it will get a ticket.

For me Im all about stock quiet and making HP. Access to the chaincase just aint gonna happen without removal as you need the STOCK MUFFLER BODY to get that stock quiet sound. See the thread on muffler bolts, and using Nickel 2500F anti-seize for ease of removal.

3 great choices out there for stock sound with a full 2.5" inlet and outlet. Sandale, TD Ben, and Hurricane Dave. I have seen Mikes dyno sheet and read real world feedback. Making SAME HP as his aftermarket 2.5" muffler at 8800rpms. Yet darn near stock quiet, The thread I read was noted that it was hard to even tell which sled had stock muffler and which was modded stock, as they sounded so similar.

Link to the Sandale one? Can't seem to find it.
He does not have it on his site....

I dont want to link to the other sled forum, but another turbo forum for green sleds has lots if you search

I will post what I have here on the Sandale, since this is a muffler thread.....

Of course the stock heat shields are reapplied once complete for stock look. He includes a bung but you can have yours done without bung if you like.

I would be remise to not post Bens muffler mod....I have no dyno sheet though, but a few pics.

Ben has these ready to go at this time, So you dont need to wait. Or you can buy one outright and keep your stocker untouched, for approx $200 more.

IMO these awesome muffler sellers should post this info more often, as I think many many guys want quiet now. Cops are cracking down more and more. I know they put a ton of time into these mods, so they make much more profit on selling the aftermarket mufflers, so that is likely why.

I think this season(season 2 of 998t) we will see alot more, hopefully aimed at us guys who want to keep things more stealthy, and hopefully the tuners will try to give us better trail response tunes, and focus more on that and clutching, and maybe a tad less on 140+ mph speed runs...LOL, not that I dont love the speed runs! haha

Dave's Hindle exhaust really opens things up in the engine compartment and it's 10 lbs lighter than stock. Makes it very easy to adjust the chain case tensioner. It is definitely louder than stock and most noticeable in the trailer or on pavement, but very comparable on the trails. I jumped on my Apex and rode behind my son on my Sidewinder and could not hear him over the Apex. Stopped on the side of the trail and let him ride by and the difference from the Hindle on the Sidewinder to the stock Apex was negligible.

Nice thing about this exhaust and the reason i went with is you can run it without a flash and it's a 16 HP gain from stock.

Obviously the big full cans like TD and sandale are going to be the quietest...then theres the smaller ones ...for the quietest and longest lasting quiet I feel AND ACCESS to the chain adjuster...the EXCELL is it...and I say longest lasting quiet because its fully repackable...also...it flows better than some others mentioned...

The only muffler i've heard in person is the Ulmer or Sandale stock muffler mod & they are VERY quiet. I assume TD's is the same. BUT, this mod gives no easier access to chain case which this thread was suppose to be about. There are plenty of videos on-line, but these do not give the full effect. It's hard to ask people what they think since "loud" is soooo subjective. If a song from Disturbed on my I-pod gets drowned out, IT'S TOO LOUD!

I was hoping to see some muffs on the trail, but didn't. After all, with tune, this is a $1000 investment. When you're 300 miles away from home and you get a headache....it's too late to complain. I will be going with muff mod if i do anything because like Dan, i like to be STEALTHY...

Yeah I was hoping for quieter options with access to chaincase, but I am leaning towards the Sandale stock muffler mod with the Hurricane 270 race tune. I'm thinking it'll be stealthy and the turbo coming on at lower RPM has me interested. Thinking 270 over 280 just to be a little safer. I don't need to be on the edge.

Td has a muffler mod in stock now...excell has one too...the td support quiet is quiet... and reasonably so is my excell... if you want that quiet... keep it stock and save the money

The Sandale mod stock flowed just as well as their 2.5" option and is almost unnoticeable from stock... That is why that options looks the most appealing to me at this point. When I first rode the sidewinder I was amazed at how quiet it is... If I can get that and have it run close to 270hp it'd be a pretty sweet ride for me. "Keep it stock and save the money"??? What is wrong with you? :)
