I am in the process of removing the exhaust on my 2019 Sidewinder and I cant get the T50 socket on 2 of the 6 bolts. the 2 bolts on the left top are partially blocked by the exhaust pipe. Before I start throwing money for new tools I figured I would see what everyone else did to get them out.

Thanks,

John

One newbie to another go through the post below , every page, I forget what page the muffler bolts are on but, yes what actionjack said basically remove the torx from the socket (buy a socket from Lowes/HD) then put a wrench on the just the t0rx to get the other two bolts out. I ordered a little longer mm SS Hex Bolt then rockerDan recommended

BTW- I'm doing the panel rivet nut mod (both sides) and don't use the harbor freight rivet nut tool breaks with SS rivet nuts.

I see that this is your first post here SRTGTOCJ7. Welcome to the site! There's a lot of great information here to keep your sled in top shape with lots of resources available.

Here's a link that I found for you that contains everything that you'll need to help you to remove those pesky Torx bolts on your exhaust:

I found this link in the SideWinder Trail Talk forum under the "SideWinder Frequently Asked Questions" thread that's near the top of the first page. I'd recommend taking some time to learn all of the valuable resources on TY.

You might also consider joining as a VIP member to take advantage of the rest of the benefits that TY has to offer. I don't believe that you'll find another site that has as much to offer to keep you on the snow and in the know.

I see that you've already had a couple other TY members chime in with some info so you can see just how helpful everyone is here :)

Here's to a great winter riding season.

Cheers!

Thanks Actionjack. That worked and yes 8mm. Only thing else I needed to do was shorten the T50 it was still too long.
got to love engineers!

Just do yourself a favour to make things easier for yourself next time and exchange the T50 for 6 point header exhaust bolts.....M8x1.25x20mm

Make sure to reinstall with Nickel anti seize and check torque value in manual. I torque a bit under described with no issues.

I guess I'll use this thread to ask my newbie question. How do I [you] remove the muffler? AND is there any other hardware, other then the 6 discussed above, that should be nickle anti-seized because of heat?

Recognizing the six bolts (#5) need to be removed. There are grommets (#6 (2), #9). Are there muffler pins that go into the grommets? Meaning, what holds the muffler in the grommet? It looks like I lift the muffler up to remove it. What's the function of the spring (#21) behind the muffler - I don't like hidden springs. Can I reuse the gasket #8 on a new sled with 0 hours, or is it a crush (one use) type gasket ? I assume the muffler shielding comes with the removed muffler.

One spring to be disconnected and lift the muffler assembly out, once all 6 of the T50 bolts have been removed.

Very simple. Take of the heat shield the bolts and spring. Heating the the bolt housing helps a lot. Nickel anti seize will take the heat and make bolt removal easier

Thanks all I guess that spring is P/N: 21 and I'll gamble with the gasket. I'd like to touch that gearcase adjustment screw

Get use to it, because thats about the ONLY way to get to that bolt.

Unless you do the rivnut mod. A project that will pay for itself for as long as you own the sled!!!!!
