rivet nuts

The polaris ones are also same as the ones Honda uses. I have some of those in stock as well and they work well too. Send me a PM and I can fix you up. It's tough to keep up with thread posts, so PM's will always reach me.
 

So the general consensus is M6 is the best size. What BOLT length is the most convenient or does the job require multiple lengths ?
 
Initially I began using 6mm bolts in 5/8 length with a hex head. Using a driver with a socket to install, I found there was not enough bolt length for the threads to grab and starting threading. So I went to 1" bolts and they all fed up in there great.
I want this process to be fast and easy, and I was just fighting with aligning the bolt and stretching the panel with the 5/8's. Yes 1" sticks through quite far but they don't bother, rub etc on anything.

When drilling out the rivets near shock post, some people take off the shock. I got away with taking off the nut. You will need a very long drill bit for the rivets near shock post if you do not take shock off. It’s a fun project enjoy!
 
My .02

I used the M5 ss rivnuts with ss button head screws, works very well. Get a quality tool they are not that expensive. Also after all riv-nuts are in run a tap through them as some (upper shock mount) can get a little snug and this cleans everything up and finishes it off nicely. I like to keep all the same and not mix sizes but it will work great either way.

Also mine has a cool knob that you just pull when done and the tool spins right off the installed riv-nut. Not a big deal but easy off.

I wouldn’t worry if it’s imperial. I got an imperial rivet nut tool on sale - half price and just used that. I went with 10-24 threaded rivnuts and used 3/4” long SS bolts. I used pan head with a red Robertson driver. Put a flat and lock washer on each. I got all my hardware at TSC pretty cheap.

I also switched the two pop rivets at the back of the belt guard so I can remove it whenever I am working on the clutches. Just watch the bolts aren’t too long because the track is right there.
 
Dont buy aluminum riv-nuts either, get steel.
 
For the upper most fastener location in the aluminum shock mount casting, I would recommend 5mm or less rivnut sizes, as the drilled hole for a 6mm rivnut runs in beside an internal wall of the casting, this leaves nothing on the one side for the rivnut to grip on and skews it on an angle. For the section thickness of that casting one could just drill and tap a hole in that location too, pretty beefy.
I found you have to use varying grip range rivnuts depending on location where you drill through thicker sections or multiple thicknesses.
The smaller grip range rivnuts don't rivet over properly in thicker sections and could pull out. I used 5x 17mm long rivnuts and 4x 15mm long rivnuts.

All worked good with 10-24 inserts
Didn’t have to take the shock bolt out
