There are some here that will disagree with you on this. I have no experience with the 8JP. So, I have no opinion yet (Sidewinder added to the stable.) Since I have an apex and vector already, I would prefer to use the 8dn, however.because the 8 jp is shorter and wider = faster .

Sorry, disagree also.
Still a lot of testing to do and some facts:
1 - 8JP is softer
2 - 8JP is more expensive
3 - 8JP is shorter (a few mm's)
4 - Lots of belt dust
All the testing on the Viper (I know we are talking about the SW now...but bear with me)...the 8JP belts would slip stock, cause a lot of belt dust. Very inconsistent belt for rpm, speed and reliability. Maybe it was everyone trying to get close to the rev limiter that was causing all the belt slippage????
All my testing the 8DN was proven in all my tests to be better 60 foot, better acceleration and faster speeds. There are so many posts of mine proving it on snow and on the track.
With that said....I am testing the SW with the stock 8JP with clutch kits now and actually think the 8JP stands a chance. It's when I can get out testing on snow is where the 8DN will come into play.

The 8JP did not hold up well on the SW prototypes last winter. I was told that it wasn't due to the SW being harder on belts, but the lesser quality of belt the 8JP is.

The early prototypes of the SW's didn't have the new clutches on all of them. This was right from Yamaha corporate when we went down there for the TY private preview. (what I was told anyway)

True. But the clutching that is on the SW now isn't any easier or harder on the belts. The early prototypes of the SW's didn't have the new clutches on all of them. This was right from Yamaha corporate when we went down there for the TY private preview. (what I was told anyway)
8jp on stock Viper worked great till about 3-500 mi and then the massive slipping and inconsistency would start especially on top end pulls. Some made them work and Winder is new clutches. Have to give it a chance but nice to know lot of alternatives.

I will run the jp till it causes an issue or creates a bunch of dust. No need to keep using it if it ends up as bad as it was in the viper. I never seen so much dust. Once I switched to the 8dn the dust problem was gone.

Kevin sold me a new 8DN belt 8dn176410100 for $58.00 and the 8JP was $100.00 bucks, your call, buy the 8DN on e-bay for around 50-60 bucks to,my thought buy 8DN you already have the 8JP and break both in,and give each one 300-500 miles and see for yourself which one you like best, only thing is add one .060 thou shim to the two you already have for the 8DN belt and remove it when you run 8JP or spend 100 bucks on someones belt sadjuster belt removal tool also a smart idea,i had OSP's on my procross, and I liked it a lot.Sorry,i missed this, its Kevin from portyamaha in wisc. who has some awesome pricing on parts and clothing,i have been using him for several years now on my 4-wheelers and sleds, great guy to talk to,and will help you out with ideas to boot. What's the price on both belts? For those who will be adding power..there are benefits to a softer compound belt...just saying...plus easier on your clutch face

8jp is more forgiving. And when hot, not so good. And is the belt currently installed on winder. I will get another.

So after a year of riding what's the consensus now.
8JP or 8DN?
8JP or 8DN?
