I'm glad you guys are looking for that "magic" belt. I hope when you find it you will let me know. I swear what belt are you using threads are as good as what oil or chain case lube are you guys using? I should know because I started a few. While we're at it what grease do you guys use on your sleds?

There is no magic belt.....but there are different compounds, different widths, different angles, different lengths and when using a different brand belt.....the rpms are different.
Fact, some last longer than others...why? Because of how the clutches are setup. Different weights and clutch kits will either kill a belt or make it last longer....all depends on how it's driven and if the clutches are working the way they should. So many things that can kill a belt (Improper clutching/improper grip of belt, burning a belt loading a sled, off-trail where the belt gets wet and slips, wrong offset, coil-binding, wrong secondary wrap, poor trail conditions, contamination from grease, oil or anti-freeze, braking too sudden-then taking off.....then you have all the riders that can't drive for $hit & misuse belts.)
My SRX asphalt sled ran 3 asphalt race seasons (33 races per year x average 6 times down the track per race....you do the math). My Viper had the same Gates belt on for 2 asphalt race seasons and a 4,600 mile winter season of serious off-trail, speed runs and regular trail. So is there a magic belt? No, it's all on how your clutches work that determines how long your belt will last.
Is there a difference in oil? You bet there is. I am running the same oil 5w-30 Mobil 1 full synthetic. And to answer your question...I run the Valvoline red grease.

See this is what I'm talking about!
Lots of great info and suggestions here. I don't know what I would spend my money on if it weren't for this site.

They say never to say never but I'm going out on a limb here and say NEVER! As far as I'm concerned Doo and all the others can stick their 2 strokes up their arse. All this talk about clean burning and using little oil is a bunch of bull. I rode behind a couple e techs last year and the fumes were obnoxious. There is no way I'm riding behind that crap for 250 miles. Then they go through a ton of oil when your cruising 65-75 mph. Oh and I know everybody talks about 4 stroke reliability but you know better than anybody there were plenty of 850's that went down last year and the season was very short. How many 850's did you buy last year and how many engines did you go through? My last two stroke lasted 2000 miles before it seized (2004 800 HO MXZ) before that I got 2500 miles out of my ZR 800 efi before it seized. 2 strokes are garbage imo.Maybe a new 850 ??

My riding group consists of six 4 stroke sleds and we love it. Last year we ended up behind a couple of Etechs that we met up north and they rode with us a couple days. I made the mistake of letting them lead. I hate riding behind 2 strokes. My wife and I come up on them all the time and can't wait to pass them with our pig heavy ill handling 4 strokes. (BUFFALOS)XP123, why do you think you'd be riding behind an 850?
Sorry.....
