Second ride report

oh man, you GOT to give a guy more notice than this...I have my sled TOTALLY torn apart...

when you going?

Hey, Eric. I'm all in dirt bike mode now, 'cause I still haven't done my sled build. Always more parts to get! Where you ridin'? How much snow does Cooke and the Gravellys have?

Sorry to jack your thread, Nikolai. Eric, reply on "Who's Still Riding".

Updates?

Just checkin in on any updates Nik...Startin to get the snow itch early with all this crappy weather we've been having. Wondering how the new bumper came out.

Sled work has been slow. I'm going to try and finish the bumper this weekend and the tunnel in the next few weeks if possible. I had to do quite a bit of modifying to the bumper in order for it to work.

I also finally found a set of shocks for the front. 2004 440 Rev race shocks which should be here in a couple weeks. Only real challenge is going to be stuffing the ressis inside the body. With the rear shocks redone and the new ones up front, jumping will be sweeeeeet :D

Here's a couple pics of the Doo 440 braces. They are extremely strong and fairly light. There will be two on each side(inside) of the tunnel. No way they will ever bend.

Does the year matter on the rev shocks? I have a set of 2005 (I think)440s in my garage that will go on instantly if they work. Are you still using the stock skid after removing the expert X? What did you end up doing to your rear shocks? Sorry for all the questions but I trust your judgement.

Any 440 Rev shock will work but they will need to be shortened about a half inch. Shortening them is easy though and shouldn't cost much. I don't know yet either what spacers I'll need for mounting them. Once I actually get them I'll figure it out.

I never removed the Expert-X, I just sold the Floats out of it and put the stock shocks back in. I gained some weight but the ride was so much better. Only work to the Expert-X will be swingarm braces and some shock work to make them stiffer. And 8" wheels which are on the way.

Crow, the part number on the Doo brace is 518323578. They're around $40 ea. The way they are designed though I'm not positive if they'll work with a 16" wide track. I"m going 15" wide so it doesn't matter. Maybe order just one and try and fit it first.

Finally got around to working on the sled. I decided to scrap my previous tunnel idea for various reasons and came up with the new one. I'm going to unrivet the sides of the tunnel from the top(the Nytro tunnel is 3 pieces unlike most sleds) and have entirely new sides made with a straight taper all the back. It won't look quite as good but it's the easiest, most functional, and strongest which is my main concern. This way I can start with a clean slate. I should be going to the sheetmetal shop tomorrow. Only downside is the $75 Phazer bumper I cut in half and now won't use, lol.

I did get my wildchild post relocation and 8" wheels in the mail.
