Wondering if this is an issue on the Phazer since they use the same old style diamond foot grip pattern as the original Nytros?

I wonder if a hydrophobic coating, like Neverwet from Rustoleum, would help with that?

I'll be trying it in the tunnel to control icing as well as keeping ice from forming on the top wheels.

Betterboards or simular is ideal.. I'd like to get somethink like the Skinz air frame runningboards but there are none available for the pahzer mtx witch is a shame and I dont have the skils or tools needed to fabricate my own..

It's been tried. Apparently it requires constant reapplication.

The problem with the types you mention are that they are a single layer of aluminum. Snow still sticks to it, whether its coated or not. Their traction devices are simply the aluminum bent up, which is where they will eventually crack because of flexing. Because of the staggered pattern of the diamond foot grips on the Phazer running boards, when you start to cut out the pattern to match the new running board inserts, the whole original running board falls apart.
At Haydays this year, there was a sled in the swap area that had Air frame style boards, but they were made completely out of edge trim (same edge trim that is used on the Phazer). All aluminum. I didn't try standing on them or feel for flex, but they looked stout.

Better Boards may resemble these but these are a totally different animal! Better Boards are a single layer of 1/8" aluminum. They tend to crack where the aluminum is bent to form their foot grips. The Mountaintech Boards start with a .063" base plate that replaces the original running board that you have to cut out. This base plate also fits into the slot machined into the OEM outer edge extrusion On top of that comes a 1/8" running board insert. Then to top it off there is a 3/16" layer of UHMW. This is all fastened together with proper OEM style Multi Grip rivets (other kits don't offer these) and 6mm traction devices. You end up with strong and stiff running boards that are 3/8" thick! The Mountaintech boards also come with most of the holes for the fasteners already there.

What's the reason for using UHMW? Does the snow slide off it much easier than aluminum? This looks like a well made piece that works great. I'm interested.
