I have a 17 sidewinder and with very little powder riding the front end of the sled is just blocked with snow. It doesn’t seem to run too hot but when I shut it off it gets very hot. Anything I can do to keep those vents clean ?

Don't ride it in snow. I noticed this last season and really didn't pay much attention to it. You can't do much when riding in powder. These turbos will get really hot and you can here the water sizzling around the muffler and turbo. The only thing you can do is brush away as much snow as you can when possible. I'm sure the mountain guys ride with everything plugged up all the time.I have a 17 sidewinder and with very little powder riding the front end of the sled is just blocked with snow. The only other thing that might help is spray the front of the intercooler with silicone spray or something else to keep the snow from sticking.

Try some vent screens, also, lots of guys are changing to Cat front grille in front of intercooler as it sheds snow better. One guy even put frogskin wrap around it and really seems to work as intercooler stays clear.
Also, don't complain about riding in snow. Lots of people don't have any!

I got a cat grill too....very cheap bolt on part, but it looks ugly as sin IMO(cat like) and loses the nice shelf with 50th logo.
Figured id have it hear for certain days if need be.

I don't like the look of the Cat one either Dan or any of the other aftermarket ones. How much better is it than the Yamaha grill? I think they will all plug up in deep snow and for normal trail riding they will all keep clear.I got a cat grill too....very cheap bolt on part, but it looks ugly as sin IMO(cat like) and loses the nice shelf with 50th logo.

Barn of parts sells a nice grate for the front of the grill/intercooler that is frog skinned and works great. I removed my nose cone on mine and installed it, some guys modify the nose cone to fit around the grate/screen leaving it intact.I have a 17 sidewinder and with very little powder riding the front end of the sled is just blocked with snow. Your sled getting hot after it is shut off isn't really the intercooler being plugged. The convection cooling takes over when you shut the sled down. This keeps some coolant circulating for the turbo which heats it up pretty quick. When you start it back up the temp will be high but it usually drops pretty quick once you start circulating back to the heat exchangers again.
If you watch it, the temp will be high enough that it would usually put the sled into limp mode but the ecu is smart enough to give it a few minutes to come down before cutting power.
Mine does this even if the intercooler is perfectly clean.
