I have a 2014 Viper RTX SE w/ 6" slim jims on stock skis. This is one of the lightest/easiest steering effort sleds I have owned. What is SnowTech talking about (pg's 26, 58 and page 62) when they report "heavy steering" for the Vipers?? Their 'long term test' sleds were SR Viper LTX w/ stock skis and LTX SE (pg.62...weakness - extreme heavy steering) . Do you guys with the LTX experience heavy steering?

No!!! Best handling sled I've ever owned, they must be sponsored by another brand, "Polaris"! Lol


I was laughing at that also. Maybe by heavy they meant the amount you have to turn the bars because of push? I was agreeing with all they said about rear being way off but then they lost me with the heavy steering. I wish mine was heavy at least it would turn then.

Our XTX after long tracking was very heavy on the front. See my post on skid shock relocation to cat specs if you wish to see what I did on girlfriends sled. My Viper I put Cat Ice Age Rails on to solve it as the holes are where Cat put them. LTX I have no idea....
EDIT: I think I know what the confusion is. Cat is very light on the front and hitting the throttle brings the front up at will. You can still turn it though. Our XTX new was like power steering but no weight transfer to speak of. After the long track it was miserable. After the skid shock relocation it is like power steering but still has loads of transfer to bring the front up. Or put more air in rear to rail the trails. That would be my guess at what they are saying.

Yes they were talking ltx which definitely is front "heavier" but in no way hard to steer.

Yes the girlfriends XTX was like power steering new but the lack of transfer made it feel very heavy compared to a similar Cat. I would say a stock XTX is heavy on the front according to my taste.


When I think heavy steering I think of my old formula iii with steel skis and 12" carbides. That was a workout!

Guess I need to read the article before I chime in I might be talking about the wrong thing!


To me it's what you feel through the bars. Transfer is what you feel in the back end and see in the headlight in trees. I believe that's what they meant unless they are really girlie.
