I was watching Snowtrax television the other night and they were testing the new Nytro.

The test rider raved about how much fun it was, the fit & finish, the aggresive look, etc, etc...

The one thing they griped about when they had a printed list of needed improvements was "Please Yamaha, do something about the lousy, cold, handgrips!".

I had to chuckle to myself and thought about how much more pleasent their riding time would have been had they had a Yamaheater installed on the sled!!

Was that a 2011 Nytro, if so, there is no excuse, I would think that after 4 years they would fix it already. It was near zero this weekend so I left the Nytro in the garage and rode the Ski-Doo and had to turn the handwarmers on low. I will ride the Nytro again when the temps are back in the 20s.

Rode last night and froze me hands . Probly gonna have to bite the bullet for Yamaheaters on THREE sleds. OUCH$$$$$$$$$$$ ;):D ;):D

Yes, as a matter of fact it was the 2011 model. He raved about the awesome handling, fit, finish and feel.

Just couldnt understand how they could blow something so simple as hand warmers. :o|

I find it hard to believe this is still even an issue....Doesn't anyone test sleds anymore before selling them????? Worse yet that problems has been around since like '06?? How hard can it be??? Sleds cost went up huge in the last 4-5 years and no working handwarmers.

You ever get the feeling that some people need to stop wearing Mechanics Gloves on thier sleds?

Either that, or maybe they are wearing too warm of gloves and the freeze may be from sweat?

I can't say that I run my grip warmers more than half if they are on at all. It was -10 this weekend and I only turned them up to half long enough to take the chill off after we stopped for lunch. And I know that chill was from sweat in the gloves.

I can't say that I have heard this issue on the phazers, I guess it must be just a Nytro Apex issue as there are plenty of folks bitchin about it.

Sad to see it on TV.

I do not have cold hands, I have handlebars that cannot reach a temperature that can melt the frost off the bars. Yamaha came up short on this one.

You are simply lucky.

Have sold YamaHeaters for every 4 stroke model made.
Some models more than others, yet every model.

Some models tend to be colder than others overall.
(Nytro & Apex in particular)
Yet, even some of these sleds ARE warm from the factory.
The problem is that they are so close to just not being quite enough, that a small varience in the electrics, makes a big difference in the grip heat.

Thats why yours are warm, yet the next guy on the same model & year sled is cold.
(Personal sensitivity does make a difference, yet the sleds DO vary quite a bit.)

This is not only a Yamaha problem either, am working on a Doo heater right now, with the exact same problem.

Also have Poo riders & others calling me quite a bit.
Seem ALL the manufacturers have at least one model. if not more, that have the same issue.

Hope this helps!

Rock :-o

I can vouch for my Phazer, hand warmers are way too hot on high.

As for Polaris, I test drove four new 2011 Rush sleds Saturday on a demo ride and three out of the four were hot on high while one only felt warm.

The early Phazers/Venture Lites had ho-hum handwarmers. Problem was that they were wired in series. Yamaha came out with a rewiring kit ($10) that put them in parallel, giving full power to each warmer instead of half. Now, mine are so hot, I just run them on just 1 bar and eventually, I still have to turn them off they get so hot.

I wonder if Nytro's and Apex's are still wired in series? Find the manual for your sled and look up the wiring diagram, which should confirm this. If that's the case, it's a simple matter of rewiring them to parallel for anybody who's electrically inclined.

Actually the wire harness you are referencing was included with new bars that were intended to be wired in parallel.

Using the harness with the series bars will seriously risk the stator.

The new ones are all wired in parallel.
