They do hold up really well at the bend. After 1700 miles on a set they look new up front and the rear 2/3rd's is about gone. I put on 2 wheel kits and it now wears quick to the halfway point then stops. Both straps I left in the stock holes. I think studs help too cause they seem to chew the snow up on the really hard trails.

Guys do the tracks on your Nytro's have all windows open?? I know the XTX does so I think I am going to have the dealer fully clip the track before I pick it up. The reason I ask is because if every third window is closed like on my 08 Vector you can install anti-wear pads, they will all but eliminate slider wear and friction caused by the amount of rubber contacting the slides. This worked for me last winter so it may be an option for you guys also.

Over at the scandinavian forums there is a theory about cheap material in the Yamaha sliders. A lot of people have got buddies on other brands who have got zero wear problems in the same conditions where the Yamahas have got obvious wear problems. One guy is actually reporting about big improvements in slider wear after installing a set of BRP (Lynx) sliders (he claims he did a proper, long-mileage, identical-condition test against a buddy with an identical sled but with standard sliders). I will talk to him and then report the full story...
My own experience is that fully opened and fully clipped tracks will improve the slider wear. This is what I am using and I can not say that I have got extreme wear problems....

I heard windows were made larger this year on the '09s. Does anybody now for sure? might let more snow reach the sliders

is your track set really tight or something? my sled had 666kms on it when i turboed, sliders were still ok, put on 300kms wth the turbo and the track was tight, wore the sliders a lot in that 300kms, then i installed scratchers and got another 1000kms out of them last year. they still have a little bit of life left, but i'm changing them out anyways. the scratchers made a huge improvement for me. my scratchers mount forward on the underside of the running boards so they do throw snow at the bend on the skid. and i'm picky about stopping occasionally to kick snow in when i'm on the trail to be sure.

The theory with the closed widows on a track is that they will hold more snow for lubrication.
I don't think this is a valid theory. I would feel better with a fully clipped track.

I installed these on my sled as I am already on the 3rd set with only 1,100 miles. The area that was wearing out is in the same location as the wheels. I hope they work as the set cost over $200!

I agree that track tension and riding conditions play a major role in hyfax life. Although it is not proven, I do feel that they have a quick wear in period, then slow down...so keep us updated on the life of the hyfax with the scratchers installed.

I've had great results switching the idler wheels out for larger ones on my Vector, no reason why this should work on the lighter Nytro. Here is one post on the subject over in the RS section: http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... ler+wheels
Just do a search on "larger idler wheels" and find more posts and details.

Do you temper your slides when new? drive a short ways, stop let them cool down, drive a short ways, stop let them cool down. My slides go through the season (3000 miles). My new xtx, I used a heat gun to temper the slides while the track was still loose. When I replace slides with the HP's, I temper them with the heat gun before they go on.

Nytro w/ a fully clipped track you should see 2000+ miles in good snow conditions. I ran 2350 miles last season on the original set. My Apex would not go 1000 miles before burning the sliders with the stock closed window track. I also run my track outside of spec on the loose side with BRP extroverts.
