I have a buddy with a 2012 turbo cat. He was riding in the powder a couple nights ago and his gear box blew up causing him to stop abruptly. He looked down and the gear box was on fire! Jumped off and you can tell in this pick that it started at the gear box!

Same thing here reverse update done and it still come out
It happens when going wide open for like 5 mile run down a river or something
Take cover off and look at the way it all works no other brand would build a system like that with a bushing in top gear

on the turbo cats...the servo motor kept you in forward gear...but it was too weak...so they rack and pinion type setup...what I found was a loose deflection belt helped many of the chaincase and reverse issues....to the cat guy who posted..with the oil resi outside of the chaincase...if the chain and or gear grenade at high speed...the shrapnel blows through to the oil resi and either can get sucked up and hatch a motor , blow through the resi and a leak of the oil hits the super hot exhaust and viola....fire!

well that left a mark guess the insurance adjuster did not have to calculate the fix vs totalled equation!

So your saying run more belt deflection? That will help it from walking out of gear.

It seems like when the belt is tight..gears float into place and stay there...reverse finds home easier...never had an issue with mine this way..with power..many did the reverse delete

Even cat doesn't know been battling this since 2012 it was a major problem with the turbo cats. If its popped out once the gears are toast it will roll the edges over on the top gear where they slide together and will never fully engage again. Its a piss poor chaincase design that has unfortunately been patched together a few times now with updates. I have had more than my fair share of experience inside one of them.

Tom, I had my update taken care of and I never had a problem with it....but while it was getting the handwarmer fixed...they put the update in.
But now, it seems like after the update....it has a huge lapse or pause before it locks in. Did yours do that? Before it was like engage right away and now theres a pause.

The pause is the servo motor attempting to sync the gear....some ground every other tooth on the gear for reverse because its meshes too tight....this is where the looser deflection helps imho...

How and what do you need to do the reverse delete? I am putting this on asphalt and want to delete the reverse.

You can disable the reverse with a sleve I made some for my Cat to lock it permanently into forward.

I will be looking at it today... I think it pretty crappy fix ... I am hearing that its still a problem out west as well.

I know bikeman (kerry shilts) ran initially anyways with all the reverse garbage taken out...I ran a aftermarket jackshaft and a set of hyvo gears....if yam is running hyvo gear and chain in there...Id strip out all the reverse.....you'll be left with the longer shaft and nothing on it...but thats fine...you can get a plug from the 800 cat that will fit the hole where the servo motor and gear were located...you'll loose about 8 lbs as I remember...
