I have a 09 FX Nytro that won't start. It worked fine when I parked it for the summer but now it's time to get ready for riding season. When I turn the key the solenoid only makes a clicking sound. I jumped the terminals and it fired rite up. I am assuming the solenoid is bad. Any help is greatly appreciated. I did a search but I can't find anything but I am also not very computer smart!

Ok, thanks. Should I replace the starter relay in the front with the new red one while I am doing this? I have had it not start once last year when it was 5 degrees for the high. Any idea of the new red relay part number?

Sounds like it is a bad starter relay or fuses(ignition or main fuse). Make sure no blown fuses and emergency switch on handlebar is up. Pull relay and check operation on bench with jumpers and 12v battery

The starter relay gets moisture in it and after sitting the mechanical contacts corrode. When the key is turned you'll still here a click which is the contacts coming together but due to the corrosion the starter won't be energized. Because you hear a click everything up to the relay is working properly. The only other issues would be a poorly charged battery or a bad starter but by jumping the relay you narrowed the problem down to a bad starter relay.

Thanks for the input. Grizz, that was my thought also. The 8GN-81950-00-00 relay for the starter, Isn't there two of the same relay's that this relay will replace? Hope that makes sense!

I think I might be confused! Yamaha calls the solenoid a "relay", I call it a solenoid. My "relay" or as I call it, solenoid is bad. The 8GN-81950-00-00 is the fuel relay, correct?

The starter relay is not the same as the fuel pump (red some say) relay. Fuel pump relay is located on top of the left foot well along with three other relays. The starter relay is attached to the battery tray.

fuel pump relay is not in the left foot well. Look here for locations and identification of all relays: http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/fault-codes-relay-fuse-location-wire-diagram-diagnostics.83992/

On my 06 apex the fuel pump frooze twice and to solve it I bought a brand new red relay and replaced it above the left foot well. Never had the problem again. Where do you think the FP relay is located

Fuel pump relay only controls the fuel pump, engine will turn over just won't start when the FP doesn't run, no fuel

Oh I see the problem with location, I was thinking apex not a nytro.

Yes, the new solid state relay is the fix for previous fuel relay problems on all the FI sleds. Many of us have also been using it as a replacement for the fan and load control. The link gives all the necessary info for the FX Nytro.
