My 08 rtx had an overheat problem that I have been posting on here about. I finaly broke down and sent it to the dealer. Here is what I had done before sending it out. I added the tunnel heat exchanger, replaced the thermostat, replaced leaking seals in the waterpump, and used fresh 50/50 antifreeze in it. I was bleeding everything out like the manuel said, but it got hot in 3-4 miles. The dealer I took it to bled everthing and did the front up air bleed and at the sugestion of the yamaha service tech, raised the rear of the sled and bled it through the tunnel heat exchanger drain plug. They said a lot of air came out with the tail up. So they kept running it and it stayed cooler longer but kept building heat. Through the whole process they happened to see the lower left corner of my radiator kept having a few drops of aintifreeze on it after a test run. I had pressure tested the system for leaks when I found the water pump seal was bad but nothing leaked with the radiator. The dealer pulled the radiator and presurized it to 24lbs. after an hour nothing change, so the mechanic warmed the radiator with a heat gun. When the radiator got about to where you couldn't hold your hand on it the presure stared to drop. The pin hole opened up when it was hot. Not only was this tiny hole letting a few drops of antifreeze out it was letting air in so the system would become air locked and overheat. I hope this will help somebody else out. It took almost two days on the clock at the dealer to figure out.

Thanks for the update, nice to hear how things turn out. Did they bill you per hour? That would have gotten expensive!

It was 69 per hr and the radiator was 200. What are ya going to do? I spent more time than they did. Oddball stuff, now I can run. I'm going for a ride right now.

Glad to hear you got the heating issue figured out. Now can't wait to hear about the Hygear upper a arms!

That is awesome information. Amazing how a little air can ruin one's day! Now we ride :sled1:

Great! Awesome!

I don`t know how hot your engine got but if a cooling system has less pressure it it then it should, the boling point of the water will be lower. (leak). The higher pressure the higher boiling point.

Very true, gotta pay to play. At least it's all figured out! ;)!

Well I hate to say it but it's not fixed yet. The dealer's work definatly helped but the sled slowly builds heat. I rode 85 miles saturday and the temp light was flicking on and off after 20 miles gradually more on than off till it stayed solid on. The overflow was full when I got home and as it cooled it did pull it back in, with the pin hole in the radiator it wouldn't do that. The unit never got hot enough to shut down so I'm not super hot. Yesterday I put a new impeller in the water pump, changed the temp sensor and added a wetting agent to the coolant. I also ordered the instrument panel vent kit. The trails had a couple inches of loose stuff on them so I don't think there was problem with snow contact. I got right in the powder anyplace I could.

I knew that didn't sound right, but didn't want to jinx you. maybe I missed it, but is the fan running???? if there is no oil in coolant or coolant in oil and no leaks external, it has to be the fan. I remember one time on a wheeler, someone wired the fan backwards, that was tough to notice

No sign of oil in the coolant and no exaust smell to it either. The fan is deffinatly running. Backwards, I will have to check. I ran it yesterday with the cover off in 15 dgree weather, over 90mph, that sould ram some air through the radiator no matter what way the fan turns. the light stayed on the whole time but shut off for 30 sec after I stopped to put the top cover back on.
