TD header, tune & afpr question

I would suggest protecting the cooling hose from header heat.

The heat protector suggested by KnappAttack in this thread is what I have used and it has stood up well.

You don't seem to skip a beat, turboflash.
Yes, two blankets. Anything else I should consider? Covering hoses or heat barrier on chain case. Any other problem areas that need consideration?

Yes! I covered that hose on side facing exhaust. Other side not. Remember, that insulation also keeps heat in too. I also covered the chain case side facing muffler, engine oil tank side facing muffler, engine magneto cover side facing muffler, oil hoses to and from engine - side facing muffler. I also fabricated and installed an aluminum heat shield that fits between my header and rear right corner of engine. All to keep exhaust heat off stuff.

I did the backside of the chaincase and the side facing the muffler. Figured it couldn't hurt. The stuff is quite easy to manipulate and if you have a tricky spot wave a heat gun over it and it'll conform to those funky angles and corners

Ok, well...this will take longer than I thought. Ty for all the tips, I'll get as much done as possible. Better to be on the safe side.
I suppose I'll clean this up and throw a little cover over this hose, make sure the clamps are tight?
Fatchance, yes I've got a heat gun and understand. Ty

Yup. That hose & clamps has been the source of many problems over the years. Definitely take care of it. PIA to work on.

Last one.... Does the header get installed first, then notch out this shield and slide it into place?
Should the inside of shield get extra heat barrier??

This would be my sled in the photo!

Best to keep as much heat shield as possible. I had cut mine where you have marked. That section gives support to the top area which will help keep it in position.

Make sure to add some heat shield to the "mid pipe" shield to protect valve cover and coil. My heat shield sits higher up on the header and heat started to melt the coil.

I ordered more heat blanket. So I'll give those coil areas an extra look.
Thanks, Tim

Hardest part of the whole job for me is the disassembling & reassembling of the Gap ram air. So tedious it's not funny.
If you have any medical condition whatsoever you might want to pass on this mod.

Doesn’t it just pop out ? Installation video I watched just shows it snapping in Didn’t show cutting the hole in the box though
